I spotted this one in the weeds (I still get around a bit even thoughI've got six things going at one time!) and have contacted the owner to pull her out this weekend and take a closer look.

It appears to be a 1962 Chevy, it's definitely a C60, has a 292 six cylinder, and a dump bed. I always thought I needed one of these on the construction site to move small amounts of dirt and rock around :).

Would a C60 be too big to make a car hauler out of? My guess is you wouldn't want to get one of these things up over 45 MPH, correct?

Cheers,

Tom, it's hard to tell for sure because I can't see the grill or the fender badges, but looking at the hood and windshield it could be either a 62 or 63. The 230 and 292 came out in 63, before that was the 235 and 261. Regardless which one it is, you're right, most of those old trucks had gears from hell. My 65 C80 has 7.17's in it with 9.00x20 tires. Put up some more pictures when you can, I love seeing those old trucks.

More pictures would be good. I can just about can see a small glimpse of the fender and it seems like a narrow one, which if it is, it would be likely a '63 than a '62. The '62 C-60 usually had the wide fenders and the '63 C-60 usually had the narrow fenders for some reason (Probably because of the new style front suspension, which was an improvement). If it is a '63, like mentioned above, it was the first year of the 292. You can tell a 292 by the taller height of the side covers. Also to be 100% sure, you could list the VIN numbers from the door jamb, the should be at the top of the jamb.

A C-60 would be a good size truck for a car hauler. If the gears allow it, going 65 in a truck like that would be no problem. My old '62 GMC 6500, with a 478 V-6 that had a governor on it, had no problem at 62 MPH.
