I've got a situation here...

1966 Impala 327 w/ original Rochester 4 bbl. (early build carb #7026202)

I cannot find a new fuel inlet needle for it. The first rebuild kit I got didn't have any so I took it back. The second kit I bought had a different style needle with seat. I rebuilt the carb using this kit and kept the old needle in for the time being. (now that came back to bite me...)

I did a search for a new needle and found Carbs unlimited on the net. I ordered something that looked like it might work (they said its for the older R4 with the 2 screw style, blah, blah, blah) but by having it side by side with my old one, it doesn't appear as though I can make it work. :dunno

They were nice enough to take my money lightning fast but when I sent a letter the other day asking about this, they must have forgotten how to reply to an e-mail? :takethat :evil

Pic #1 shows the new kit next to my old needle to the right.
Pic #2 just shows the kit in more detail.

1) Can this be used??? My carb does not have a removable seat. I do not see how as using the sleeve will not allow the needle to shut the fuel supply off. Also, I have no clue as to what the smaller brass piece is?? (instructions would be nice)
2) If this is not usable, where the heck can I get the correct one??? :scratch

Car is grounded until I get one so I'm starting to get a little excited now.:cuss ($23 dollars of gas in it that I'm just itching to burrrrrrnnnnnnn.) LOL

Looks like the new needle fits into the sleeve and is used like the old one? That extra piece might be some kind of spacer.

Found their website and sent an e-mail yesterday. No reply yet. (I hate phones) :D

I know this is an early build carb and I'm starting to think this style of needle is extremely obsolete! :bang

Guess I'm gonna have to jury rig a junkyard 4bbl to run for a while until I track down this elusive part. :stooges

This is the one part of old cars I don't like. :cuss

It should be noted that a Roch 7026202 is a Quadrajet, not a 4 GC.

Well, I was able to solve the mystery. The kit shown actually does work although there were NO INSTRUCTIONS!

After searching to high heaven for a new needle, even looking through the pictures in the books at NAPA, I could not find anything to replace it with. I decided to take it apart again and ended up figuring out how to use this kit on my own. Car seems to be good now, went for a little ride.

To describe a bit, the small brass fitting and the O ring in this kit are pressed into a hole in the carb body where the fuel normally comes through to block it off. Then, the larger sleeve and other parts go where the old needle was.

With this setup, the fuel now comes in up over the needle where with the old one, it went down through a hole in the bottom. Without seeing it in person, it's hard to understand. There must not have been too many made like this one.

All I have to say is IF Carbs unlimited would have taken a few minutes to include instructions, I would have avoided alot of aggravation. I am happy they at least offered this as I see no other possible options!

I'm just glad to put this hellish nightmare behind me. :D
