i have a 63 belair 409 with aluminium door panels and other aluminium pieces in the engine compartment how can i tell if this is a factory drag car.I f anyone is in the newburgh ny area i would love to have someone who knows take a look. thanks steve

As far as I know all factory '63 race cars were the 50 odd Z11's made as Impalas. I'm sure I'll get corrected if wrong:D

Steve is correct - no Bel Air factory drag cars. What aluminum pieces are in the engine compartment?

No BelAir aluminum in 63. All were Impala.
This doesn't preclude that someone removed some from a Z-11 car and put it on or
perhaps the aluminum is that which racers add to lighten up cars on thier own.
Post some photos of it. There are users here that can identify factory aluminum panels.

I think there may have been one or two Bel Airs bought and the aluminum front parts added back in 63. There are photos of a couple of them running A/FX.

I think Steve is referring to the door panels inside the car - taking the place of the upholstery. Not the outer door skins. Thats the way read it anyway.

Remember the Norwood Chevrolet '63 Bel Air fom Rhode Island with the aluminum front end and said to have a QM motor in it also. Who knows??? Talk to you this weekend!
