I have been lurking around here for several months and figured it was about time to register and intro myself. I am from Greenwood, SC and I am currently driving a '62 Impala wagon (first pic). It should be getting a "W" motor in the near future. I am also building a '58 Impala for a close friend of mine. It is pretty much stock on the outside with some updates underneath. Currently running the original 348 backed by a 700R4. It will receive full air ride suspension and Budnik wheels in the next month. Thanks for everything you folks have helped me with that you knew nothing about. Look forward to some conversation here and maybe meeting some of you in the future.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I also have a 62 wagon with a 409 in it. You'll love the "W" in the wagon. Have you modified the motor or is it basicly stock. What tranny are you going to run? It would be nice if you brought the wagon to Clay City, KY.

This is my first post in this forum. I don't own a W mtr. right now, but I have owned 1 348 and 5 409's.

I have a little experience with a 409 in a wagon. I started drag raceing 409's in 1962. Raced them for about 12 years. I bought a 409 Imp. SS in late April of 1962 just for drag raceing. Worked out a great sponsorship deal with a local dealer. [He loved drag raceing]

Ran the SS through 1968, then put the engine, radiator, and complete drive train from the SS into a 62 9 pass. Imp. wagon. The extra weight dropped me down several classes. Man was that thing a load. It was unreal out of the hole with 5:13 gears.

How we finally got the drive train to hold together, and get enough fuel to that monster mtr. is quite a long story for another time.

Bottom line is I had a blast raceing 409's back in the 60's, and done quite well. Ended up with more than 200 class and eliminator trophys, all with the same engine in two diff. bodies.

Lloyd, here's a link to info on the 348/409 get together at Clay City. We had a similar get together last year at Norwalk Ohio and everybody had a great time. It's all very informal, just a place for 348/409 guys to get together. http://www.348-409.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5938

Welcome Mark, you are doing a great job on that 58. Are those Allen Grove backets for the ac and alt? How did they fit, been looking at them for a while for my 64 project. You should try to get out to Clay City in June. You could meet some of the other guys and gals. We are going to try to get there also. Should be a great time. Walt in Vt

Yes Walt, those are Alan Grove brackets. They fit well but are a bit clumsy to put on and sometimes take three hands. Otherwise, I would recommend them. We'll have to see about Clay City. I am trying to get the '58 ready for Goodguys Columbus in July. Gonna have my hands full.

To everyone else, thanks for the kind words and future information.

Thanks, Mark
