What happened with car 101 a 63 s/s 409425 convertible. I saw the car 2 years ago in Alabama and it was purchased to be finished restoration and then go to Barrett-Jackson. It didn't bring much so I wonder if anyone was there

yes, I saw and drove the car(July 2004),it needed some interior work and a repaint. The motor was very strong. It had papers that the block was replaced in early 64 as a warranty item. I didn't buy it and turned it down because I didn't want another project car due to the work. Guy was asking 35K. I didn't "study" the car. He called me a week later and said someone from Ca. had someone fly down to Ala. and authenticate it. Then it suppposedly went to Ca. for finishing and the owner didn't want it but wanted to finish it and put it in Barrett-Jackson. I had a friend out there at BJ but he didn't check it out because he bought one of those 427 67 vette convertibles and said he had his hands full. It should have brought considerable more then it did if he did the resoration.
I have a 61 Impala convertible w/348 and auto. White w/red int. My first 348/409 car .but have admired them for years. Had vettes before then.

The car looked nice but what jumped out was the small block fan shroud and radiator. As I recall, the cowl tag color codes were off too... He said it was the correct date coded block but avoided saying it was a numbers matching car.

That would sum up why there wasn't alot of interest. Like I said earlier I didn't study the car after driving it. Sounds like he wanted to just put enough into it to flip the car or realized it wasn't worth the effort. Those few items alone would have done it for me. I do feel sorry for people trying to fix a big block 58-64 car that may have punted something in the front and can't get a shroud. I don't mind so much a replacement radiator(I have one anyway) but I kept the original one with the many, many patches and repairs.
