Anyone that has an assembly manual knows that GM puts everything in decimal measurements. :evil

Does anyone know how to convert those to fractions?

This summer, I'll be laying out SS stripes for the hood and trunk lid on my Chevelle. I have the following measurements in decimal but the might as well be in Chinese. :D I could buy SS stencils but would rather put that $50 odd dollars elsewhere.

Main Stripe width 9.63
Pin stripe .30

Stops from end of panel:
Hood: Main stripe 1.53, pin stripe .95
Deck: Main stripe 1.38, pin stripe .80

From center of hood 1.66
From center of deck 1.68

Inward from hood outer crease: 2.28

Can anyone can convert these over or tell me how to do it? (I'll accept anything close!)

Thanks,

Bob :coffee:

Bob, I stink at math! Some decimals cannot be broken down into fractions. The trick is to come as close as you can in inches or fractions of inches. You know that .500 is 1/2" and that makes .250 a 1/4" and .125 an 1/8" and .0625 would be 1/16th" and .03125 is 1/32 and so on and so on. :bang " "http://mathforum.org/dr.math/faq/faq.fractions.html

Bob,
divide those decimal numbers by .03125. The result will be how many 32nds of an inch the decimal number is. For example, .95 divided by .03125 = 30.4. So that measurement is about halfway between 30 and 31/32nds. Close enough I guess huh?
You don't have to divide the whoel thing if it's more than 1., like 1.38. Just divede the .38 part. the 1 is easy, that's 1 inch. So it's 1 and a smidge over 12/32nds. (or 6/16ths, or 3/8ths.......:scratch

Bob,here's a conversion table,if you zoom on the photo you should be able to read it,I don't have a scanner.

Bob, here is what I come up with.

9.63 = 9 5/8 .30 = 5/16
1.53 = 1 17/32 .95 = 15/16
1.38 = 1 3/8 .80 = 13/16
1.66 = 1 11/16
1.68 = 1 11/16
2.28 = 2 9/32

This is down to the closest 32 of an inch. If you need closer we can go to 64th.
