#656 bare truck block sells for $1825 . The last month on e-bay is causing me to completely re-think 409 parts. Glad I have 1 because with the prices skyrocketing, I cant own another. Wow!! Thats a lot of money for a bare truck block.

Think how cool you'd be if you just beat some Mopar and he comes to check out your engine and you tell him it came out of some old garbage truck.

Even a casual observer of sales of related "W" components would have to agree that things seem to be a bit "out of kilter" lately. Especially Ebay auctions.
690/583 Heads for more than $2K? Reportedly one set more than $4K (wonder who those two guys/gals were?).
Bare blocks for more than $1K?
When the "common" components start to go for big bucks, many of us will be unable to maintain or extend our existing inventories, if we have any at all.
I still prefer the "scrap approach" where you find a complete motor sitting in dirt for 30 years, hopefully under some cover :). True, these "discoveries" often yield destroyed blocks and related parts, but every once in a while you find a gem. It just takes time and perserverance.
I guess I have more time than money, so don't look for me to buy a set of 690s for more than $1000, if even that much. I generally don't sell stuff, so I'll never realize any gain in price differential. When I show my wife some recent Ebay prices, then show her what's down the basement, she always responds with "So sell it and use the money to get a new car". That really hurts :).
Wait 'til she gets her first ride in a 1962 SS 409-powered vehicle (coming soon!), I hope she changes her mind. Now if I could just get her to come to Clay City with me, that wouuld change her mind, right? More 409 enthusiasts than you can shake a stick at, plus lots of beer/bench racing conversations. Can't wait!
But then I wander, and this thread is about the price of a truck block. Enough said!
Cheers!
