Got a 700r4 out of a 85 suburban. Anyone got the latest and greatest up dates on these to put behind the 409 goin in the 58? This trans was rebuilt and apparently some updates performed, at least according to the hayes manual I bought. Got a 30 spline shaft, supposedly not standard until 86 . Balls in valve body different????:dunno

Ray, The 30 spline actually started in 85. There are a ton of mods and updates you can do to the 700. It all depends on how much power you want to send thru it. I would say at the very least you want to add a larger servo and larger boost valve. You could also go with a 10 vane pump and a wider band. Stay away from the Kevlar bands. The Kevlar will flake off and go thru your trans. You will also want to put in hardened pump vane rings if you are going to turn high RPMs. If you want to get really crazy, you could put in a heavy duty sun gear shell and 5 pinion planetary and on and on. Like I said, it all depends on what you're going to do with it.
Hey, I just noticed this is my 348th post!

Bungy, congrats on your 348th post. This is going to be a mild(maybe 350 horse max) no crazy stuff. Its a truck block 409 with 10:1's so actual will probably be 9.5:1, stock 340 cam with 1.8 rockers. Got the 09 in the machine shop for align honing and boring, did a mild port job with 2.065 and 1.73 BB valves. This trans was rebuilt and just seems to have had some updates done just not smart enough to figure out what they did and if what they did was right or not. It was done by a nationally known rebuilding firm. They got a number on it suppose I could give them a try to see what they done. Thanks
