I've never seen a water pump and intake like this for a 409. Was this standard for 1965?

Casting number cross-referenced with information on this web site indicates 1965 passenger. :dunno

Those tall water pumps are for the motor being in a truck. The radiator is higher and taller. making the taller water pump necessary.

I got that casting code info from Chevrolet by the numbers 65-69 page 61. I take it then that this is a mistake? Or was that casting number also used for trucks? (this book doesn't seem to cover trucks)

I'll make the corrections if someone can let me know what's what. :)

Its a 64 TRUCK motor. My 67 Chevy Parts Manual lists two 409's for 65 pass car usage. 3830814 non H/Per. and 3844422 H/Per. Skip

I'm looking in my MSA-1 book and it too lists 3857656 as being a 1965 340hp & 400hp block. :scratch

Guess they are both wrong then. I'll make the corrections to the site.

I'll list the 656 as a 64 truck block while I'm in there.

If anyone see's any other mistakes or omissions, just send me the info and I will correct it. :)

Ok, this is getting confusing now. :scratch

Checking Mortec, they only list the 814 as being for 63-64, not 65 so if that's true, how can the '67 parts book skipxt4 mentioned be correct?

My books are giving me all different info so if anyone can help by checking our numbers against other sources, please post your findings.

We really need to get this area of info cleared up. What kind of 348/409 website are we with wrong casting numbers? :dunno :p :stooges :D

Curt Harvey's site also lists the 656 as being for 1965.
