View Full Version : ENG BLOCK CONVERT: Is it Fit?

Hello,
I have a question.
So, I have 1958 impala with 348 ENG.
My block casting number is 3751872.
But it’s no Good condition; engine oils are burning with fuel.
So, now I have a one idea, I found a NOS 348 engine block.
But, It is block number 3857665 (for truck ENG).
Please, tell me, Is this truck 3857665 engine block fits my 348 head?
Can I convert from 3751872 to 3857665?
If, I can do it.
What parts dose I need when convert?
I want to buy needed parts.

Are you sure the last three numbers are 665. I have the last three numbers as 655. 1962-1965 truck block. Does the block have two notches in the clylinder bore compaired to the passenger car block that should have only one notch. What is the head casting number? Early 1958 heads will only fit the correct cast block due to casting differences.

If I were going to think of updating motor id rebuild your original motor ,youll lose HP if you go with the truck block maybe update heads to 59 379s or better just my 2cents:cheers

I agree rebuild what you in the car now. I would think that in Japan it would be hard to come up with someone who can bore the 348 blocks. It takes a special plate to align the boring bar with the cylinder. Your going to have that problem no matter what block you use. Also give us the head numbers and we might be of more help. You are really a brave soul to tackle a 348 or 409 in the far East, I wonder if any were exported to Japan? My hat is off to you.:bow Roy

I've got a 655 block with one notch. I thought the later 348 truck engines only had one notch. A little rusty right now but you can see the single notch.
