Okay stupid post of the century...Has anybody tried sleeving a notched 348 or 09 block... If not, thouights on the success of such...as long as I'm showing my lack of intelligence, how about sleeving a notched block and leaving the sleeve at deck height for the full circumferance. Thereby creating a un-notched block...whatda think....:scratch :scratch

Funny you'd bring this up, Loafer....
I'm taking 3 blocks in for sleeving this week. Two of them have a cylinder that got water in it, and froze... splitting the wall... one 348, one truck 409 block.
The other is a car 409 block that's at .060+ bore now. It needs two sleeves... no. 1 & 2.It definitely CAn be done. The bad news ?.... $300 a hole.

Hey CPG, How come I knew You would be the one to have "Been there done that":bow . How bout some good Hi Res pictures of the completed project...Good Luck

Here some welding repair techniques that might be of interest to you. Have no experience with it, just reading and researching the subject. It does make for some out side the box thoughts though. Such as weld filling notches..hey,hey:eek:

I was thinking in regard to sleeving, if a notch block creates sleaving problems. But it would be one way to raise compression on a truck block. Beside I didn't say it was GOOD ideal, just an ideal, you know, thinking out loud kinda thing...

Why does everyone worry about the notches? You can raise the compression all you want with pistons. It's not as if you can't get enough compression.

Some folks actually prefer the truck blocks. Go figure!

(Anyone in the IA or surrounding area have a boat anchor 409 truck block they want to unload?)

No problem, Loafer. Sleeving a truck block is not a problem. Got an old 409 "dude" in the Dallas area who is great at sleeving a 409. Problem is, he cusses me a great deal when I walk in with one. Im used to the cussing, dont mind it a bit, becasue he does a great job. Last one I had done (2yrs ago) was $100. That was for 1 cyl. But of course the total bill was much larger. threeimpalas was talking about me when he said that some people prefer the truck block. I like the truck block, especially because numbers are not important to me. To each-his own.

Hey CPG, How come I knew You would be the one to have "Been there done that"

How did you know ?

Because 409 engines are at LEAST 50 TIMES more difficult to find in my area, I am often given no choice but to make the necessary repairs:dunno
and necessity is the mother of invention:deal
