Hello, I'm the new guy. I'm here because my father had a 1961 409 convertible but did not keep it (the regret of his life! - and mine). Now I know this was a very rare car being a mid-year intro/convertible/4-speed SS/etc., and we were guessing maybe 10-12 were made but nobody can answer that for us. Anybody know? I have a couple of old pictures of it and my dad is trying to track down the VIN so hopefully I can post those later. Thanks.

Welcome to the site!! That must have been some 61!! I remember talking with the 1961 tech advisor for the National Impala Association and he said that he has a real 61 SS conv. I'll see if I can find his contact info and maybe you could compare your info!!

I'd be interested in talking to the guy with the 61SS convertible. I'd love to know what kind of documentation he has to verify it being an original SS.
I try to keep a tab of the "real cars" that have surfaced.
