Well, I finally made it! I have had a heck of a time getting registered. Only thing we could figure out is it was an AOL thing. :stooges So I joined another service and here I am!:clap

My name is Rick and I live with my family in the beautiful hills of Kingston Springs, TN. And, I am quite simply an old car fanatic (generally 1965 or older but I can be flexible if it's cool:cool: . I grew up in a family of streetrodders and custom builders, including my dad, so I didn't have a chance. First car built at age 14-candy apple red '57 Chevy 'hardtop'. Stayed with the tri-fives for many years but am now mostly into street roddin'. I'm also a guy who is always looking for something a little different, rare, and unsual at the car shows. Which explains my current ride-a 1931 Pontiac rumbleseat coupe restorod, and my current project: (I'll get to that). And, like the cookie cutter cars, I don't get too excited about crate 350 small blocks either. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all cars and and the work that went into them:beerbang . But, to be different the '31 Pontiac runs a early 283.

Now to my current project and what brings me to this wonderful site of 'W' enthusists and unlimited 'W' knowledge (I've been reading the threads for while:bow ). I'm building a 1942 Hudson Commodore Eight Club Coupe restorod. Yes, I said Hudson. Didn't know it when I bought it but according the Hudson, Essex, Terraplane Club, it 'may' be one of two '42 Eight cylinder coupes known to exist. Boy, are the Hudson purists gonna be mad at me:mad: cause I gotta street rod it. Won't cut it up-just unbolt and re-bolt a few things different. Since the old straight Eight splasher's not much of a streetrod engine (although I did consider it), I bought for it what I think to be one of the PERTTIEST (hillbilly spellin) engines built: a W motor. It's a running (though I intend to rebuild and beautify) 1958 348 with a block casting of 3857655. I must admit, I have been bitten by the w-block bug. Which brought to this great site. But, this is my first (but not my last) experience with W-motors so I'm gonna need your help. First question-will the lower horse 348 run 2X4 ok? Oh yea, I like to talk alot, too.

Ah yes, We have been waiting for "YOU" The one thing we have been lacking was a "Hillbilly engineer" now we are complete! I have a personal interest in this because you see. I'm a hillbilly too! I think I'll fly a squirrels tail through the 1/4 mi. at Clay City this year.

Welcome aboard.:cheers
But W powered Hudsons are a dime a dozen, don't you want to build something original?:D Okay, just kidding. Sounds like a cool project.:clap
I don't know for sure about dual quads on a 348 but I had an Offy dual quad on a really mild 409 and it ran great. I'd bet they'd be fine on a 348 too.

Thanks for the welcome! Makes a feller feel right appreciated! The 2X4 I have for the 348 is an old (but very nice new-like condition) Offy. Was told it fit 348 and low horse 409. Haven't tried it yet to confirm.

Hope you guys don't mind all us street rodders coming in here. But, trust me when I say that though I currently building pre-WWII, I get tingley all over when I see a '59 Impala in full chrome dress! And, a 58, and 61, and so on and so on.

You know there are 4 or 5 W-engine powered Hudsons here in Albuquerque:rofl :rofl :rofl

Actually there are two Hudson pick ups and both are rodded with SBCs and there is a '34 Hudson Terraplane 2-door sedan rod here as well.

Glad you joined up. Your 348 with the Offy 2 x 4 and couple Edelbrock 500s jetted down a bit will run just fine.
