Some people just have to rub it in. " I'm ready, are you?" I'll probably be working on the car in the trailer on the way down to Clay City. And maybe some more after I get there. But, I have an excuse. I'm old.

Finished addressing a few bugs in the Chevy II . Car is ready, truck is ready, trailer is ready. We are ready. Barring some weird personal emergency, we will be leaving Wednesday with destination of Clay City, Kentucky. Really excited about the trip. Looking forward to meeting all the members.

Saturday I blew the upper Radiator off,in my driveway (because I forgot to tighten the hose clamp).Today I blew the lower radiator hose off ( because I ground off the lip on the water pump to use stainless steel braided hose).I'm going to install my spare Water Pump, that has a raised lip.I'm also going to bring to bring 2 universal hoses for the trip.Besides these mishaps, the 09 is running 190 deg on highway and 200 in city driving in 90 deg and humid air.

I just got back from a weekends worth of racing only to find my computer died.:grumble:
Jim, I'm glad to see your car's working well. I'll bet you get lots of thumbs up on the trip down, especially if they notice the Michigan plates.
Mike, those are great pictures of your elky!:beerbang By the way, my 55's running well but there's a few cars coming that will be faster.:deal
As I said, we went racing this weekend. The plan was to do some tuning but we spent all the time socialising instead.:dunno Anyway, it was hot and humid so the car ran slower than last time but the ET's were pretty consistant in the 11.30 range. We made it through to the finals in our class, (straight axle) but broke out and lost. We had lots of fun though.:beerbang
So the car's on the trailer. The trailer's hooked to the motor home, (we call it the Space Shuttle) and we're hoping to leave late Wednesday night or early Thursday.:beerbang
Denny, If you happen to have an oil pan in poor condition, I'm looking for one. I want to extend a pan but I don't want to cut up a good passenger 409 pan. A 348 or 409 truck pan would work just as well.

Jim,your Motor Home is a Space Shuttle, that's a nice ride. :D Jim I do have a poor condition 409 oil pan, someone tried to convert to a 10 qt pan.I'll sell the pan for $50,just enought for mine and Ray's Bloody Marys.:beerbang :cheers

Jumping through hoops but moving ahead. left rear tail light on trailer wasn't working, thought it only needed a bulb :doh After messing with it for an hour ended up replacing the whole unit  Had one tire that was starting to have tread seperation on trailer, no time to mess around, grabbed the first tire I saw, LT tire. Trailer now looks like a hillbilly Eldorado, one snow tire in front. Bogg all but gone with the tuning I have done. Watch out Jim, I may be able to take on the motor home after all :evil Did a quickie on the Silverado interior, smells real good now. Changed oil, truck and Impala. Lots of bronze stuff in oil from distributor gear, freaked me out  Wash and detail interior of the Impala tomorrow. Thursday,,,,Rock and Roll :D

Well, seats back in. Ready to fire tomorrow. Shouldn't be any problems. Have to mount a winch in the trailer, wash the car, Unload the junk out of the trailer, put tools in the trailer, check tire pressures. Should be able to pull out of here noonish Thursday. Might be a little later. Might have to catch Ray on the Interstate and race to Mt. Sterling!!!!!!!!!! Have a friend going with me. He has a dually diesel. Should be an easy pull down there. Expensive, but easy. That darned powerstroke only gets about 9 MPG.

Hmmm...makes the 11 to 12 towing I get with my 454 gasser crew cab dually down right reasonable:rofl

We towed to KC with that truck and an open trailer. Got 9 1/2 MPG. I towed the same trailer and car to California with my 5.3 Silverado, and got 12.5 most of the time. And, gas is cheaper. But, that diesel doesn't slow down on the hills like my 5.3 does. Only good thing about it. And it's roomy. It's a crew cab, too.

Jim, I would think it would depend on what time you pull in. There are phone numbers on the track web site you might call and ask. If no answer, try 1-606-434-2719. That is Jared Kennon's cell number. He and his brother, Shane, run the track. Best place to get an answer.
Have a safe trip. Will see you thursday night. I'm staying in Mt Sterling for the evenings. No motor home!!!!!!!! :(

Fred, If you pulled two trailers with that powerstroke you would still get 9 mph but split the bill two ways:brow :rofl

Fred, We'll probably just take our time and get down to the general area Thursday night then show up at the track Friday. By the way, we'll have a cell phone with us,,, (705) 715-3082

05-31-2006, 01:56 PM
That reminded me. My cell phone is 513-594-7442. For anybody that needs help or directions. Or what ever!
Was thinking last night. I remember thinking I had only 2 months to go. Then 1 month to go. Then 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week, and now it's just about time to leave. It seemed like a long time when we started this, but seems like it got here FAST. Figured I would have run the car at least twice by now. Nope. First time this year will be in Clay City. Boy does time fly.
Tomorrow night I'll be sleeping in Mt Sterling, KY. There will be several of us there already. We will start the stories. You who arive later, can join in when you get there. Got to find a long tall Texan wearing flowered Bermuda shorts, black socks and sandals!!!!!!!!!!
When this is over, going to have to find something else to look forward to. Any one have any ideas??????? It's just about as much fun looking forward to doing something like this, as it is to do it. The anticipation is great.
BTW, Jim K., I have the name tags in the trailer. Is there anything else I might be forgetting?

Me and Sue are ready, but the 57 will be left home this year. The lower radiator has came off the water pump twice,I need a Water Pump which will be here tommrow and I need a molded hose which I don't have.Since they don't make a hose for 57 with a 409 and a crossflow radiator,I'll have to go to the parts stores and look on there shelves for a hose that will fit.So we will see you guys early afternoon Friday, without a 57:cry :cry :cry .Fred or Ray I'll give you guys a call when I get to Mt.Sterling,to locate you.

Leaving for the airport soon and will be in Kentucky this aftenoon. Hope all you fellas have a safe trip and look forward to meeting you guys Saturday. You know what they say, getting there is half the fun. Temps look favorable compared to what we have had up here in the northeast this week. Should be a great time. Look you guys up when we get in on Saturday. Walt :)
