Big Hello to everyone on the 348-409 list. I'm a new member just joined yesterday.
I have a 55 Chevy that I bought in 1975 to origanaly give to my son when he turned 16 as he was just two months old then. Well all I can say is it is in the will.
It has had it's share of small blocks and big blocks with NOS, but nothing compares to the 409 in it now. Back when I was a kid there was a model car that was my favorite it was a 55 chevy with a blown 409 it was a AMT or Revel maybe some of you older guys remember it? Well forward to 1988 a buddy had a 64 impala triple black dual quad, 4 speed, 409 all origanal QB block etc. that for lack of shelter was storing it at my shop. One day while having a few beers at the tavern across the street he brought someone over to look at the car, then removed the air cleaner to look at the carbs setting the 1/4 20 nuts in the air cleaner so as not to get lost. When finishing a few more beers set the air cleaner on the carbs and closed the hood. Two weeks later not remembering this, took the car out for a ride and one of the 1/4 20's found it's way into the motor and cracked #7 cylinder. I became the owner of that motor in exchange for building him a 348 to replace the 409 as he was moving to California. In 1990 I discovered that a 454 crank would fit in a 409 block and set about building a stroker. In 2001 the motor came to life for the first time, blower and all then about june of 2002 it first hit the road and it's been smiles per mile ever since.
Very best regards
Chip
