Folks,
I have a question on a 409. I am buying a 64 ss impala with a 409 in it. The engine is stamped with 2 sets of numbers on the pad. Is this unusual? The engine is dated on the 2nd week of june and the car was built in the 3rd week of September. Is it possible for this to be the correct engine? What could the other set of numbers be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might have to wait for an answer until the brains come back from Clay City.

I can say that I`ve never heard of two stamping on a block before. dq

The second set of numbers should match the last digits of the serial number if it is the original engine.

Hope that helps.

yea..if the second set dont match the vin of the car..then it was a 409 out of another vehicle. decoding the first set should tell you basically what it was HP wise. maybe take a pic of it and show us here? :)

Do you have a picture of the pad? If so post it and I can help you.
