View Full Version : Acetone to boost octane?

I’ve been using Boost 105 in the fuel to kick up the octane since it’s impossible to find 100 octane pump gas around here. I friend of mine says simple acetone will accomplish the same thing and cost a lost less. His rational is that the acetone causes the gasoline to burn slower and raises the octane rating. He adds only about 2 oz to 8 gals. He uses 91 octane pump gas and never has had a problem. Sounds too simple to me..

Anyone have any info or experience on this? The guy says there has been several articles written on it over the years. I’ve never seen any and a little skeptical.

Interesting to say bthe least !! It does not say that Acetone increases octane but does increase burn ability.

What happens when you add Acetone to gas that also has alcohol in it?

I`m going to give it a try and see what happens,,dq

If nothing else it will probably cool the air/fuel charge as it rapidly evaporates. Might not even make it into the combustion chamber.
