View Full Version : Pictures of my 409
Here's a link to some pictures I just took of my 409. You may have followed my previous posts, so you might already know it's a 65 truck block with 333 heads, ported and polished with 209/172 SS valves. 3/4 race cam with ross 10.5 to 1 forged pistons. The carb is a edie, 600 cfm, that came off my 250 hp 327. I ran the fuel line a little differently. Just looks cleaner. :brow Take a look. Let me know want ya think, good or bad.:)

Hello Mac: Nice looking engine. I have one comment. You might wanna raise your fuel filter up a little higher away from the intake. You don't need to add any heat to the gasoline. These 409's get pretty hot, as you already have heard. Bet you can't wait, to hear it run. Skip :)
Thanks for the FF tip. I'll raise her up for sure. I feel like I'm waiting for my next kid.:clap Now if I can just get her in my 62 without any niches, I'll be very pleased. :beerbang :beerbang She's been pre oiled with Valvoline racing oil, and I have another set of valve covers I'll put on until she's broken in. My buddy and I are gonna put her in next weekend. FYI, that's a 463 intake that was used on the 63-65 400 hp 409's, (has the power brake boss). I had the head intake runners ported out some, (not a perfect match), and the bolt holes sealed off for better flow. Should be OK. Mac

Looks great. Nothing wrong with a small block. The only thing I would ask is, why the bench seat shifter in a bucket car?
Thanks. Kind of a shame to put that thing in the car. Would look sooo much better in my office. :D :D
Model, the 62 4 speeds only came with the pencil neck shifter.

I was talking about the curve of the handle. Yours has the curve to go around the bench seat. Wasn't there a straighter stick for the bucket seat cars in 62? Maybe they didn't get to that until 63.

That started in 63. All before had the curved handle.
