Can I use a small block dist to prime the engine or do I need a 348 dist? The engine is all rebuilt new cam the works maybe this one will live a little longer. John

Quite different diameters at the base. Small block primer will only prime the mains and rods.

Somebody on here was making primers. Can't remember who. Not surprising, can't remember yesterday.

Fred, I know the feeling. Hey, think positive, you make "new friends" every day :).

I thought it was Models who was making them out of truck distributors. Some went on Ebay for a fair price. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe it was Fred???

:) :) :)

There must be another way to prime besides using an old dist. You would think. John:dunno

Have a look at the picture found on Show Cars site for the partnumber "6337 348/409 Oil system priming tool"
That will give you an idea how it should look, if you have a small block priming rod you have to make a new lower part that has the same diameter as the stock 348/409 distributor.

I posted a while back on how to substitute washers for the machined piece in the SBC primer for use on the W engine. If you want to send me a SBC primer I can convert to W for $20.00 plus shipping, But it is easy enough to do yourself.

Washers are 1.365 and stacked same as SBC. You can get the correct size now at Ace Hardware.

Is the Tim Man GM slavage yard still on the Island? I lost his number a couple of years ago. Lots of Chevy and Pontiac parts from west coast. I know he was ailing from something and wanting to get out, but I don't know what happened to the yard.
