I went to the Chevy dealer last evening to try and work a deal for a new truck. I actually got a pretty good price on an '07 Silverado Crew Cab 1500, but then they really torqued me. For my immaculate, always dealer maintained, 97K mile white 1999 1-ton crew cab dually with power everything, leather, a shell, and a spray in bed liner, they would only give me $3000 as a trade in:mad:
Am I being unrealistic? That seems really low, since checking these trucks on the various internet sites, I find comparable trucks listed between $10K and $12K. Needless to say they still have the 07 and I still have my 99.

I'd be more than happy to give you $3100 for the truck.... Just what I need to haul the car to Minneapolis since it won't make it on her own !!! :)

I was looking @ trading in my 2004 supercharged SS monte carlo (immaculate), and the clowns were trying to steal it from me for $7000. Trade in values are rediculously low right now, nowhere near the suggested values found on the net.
One thing I would suggest is to look long and hard @ the 06's. My buddy at the Chevy dealer thinks GM is going to have to throw some amazing offers around to move out the 06's...Sales are slow:brow

Tell the dealer that you can have the truck for 3K as soon as he drops the price on the new one 12K more and thell him also that the new truck is not as nice as you once thought and you are going to look at somthing else.

I just leased an Audi for my wife yesterday...
I've learned that a dealer salesman will always try to work you somewhere for their commission. If it's not on the sales price then they'll try to get you on APR, your down payment, or your trade in value. Just think that the dealership needs the money to buy more 07's coming in...
Anyways I always look at the invoice price on the exact model I want before going in. www.edmunds.com is great. Then call, DO NOT GO DOWN TO THE DEALER, the fleet manager, or if they have one the internet manager. You can agree on everything over the phone. The fleet or internet manager only has to get $500 to $750 over invoice. That's it. Then you can get the agreed price set in stone. On a trade in you're at the mercy of the dealerships used sales manager as he's the man that's buying cars at auction and know what the "going" rate is. Have the fleet/internet manager call you back with a rough on what they can offer you. If you don't like it sell it yourself, just make sure to undercut the price of anything similar in your area by at least $500 so that the ride will sell. I always think that $500 under what the going rate is better than $3000 under the KBB trade in value that the dealership offers.
food for thought

There are almost no 06 Chevy PUs available here, but there are quite a few 06 GMCs and I like the front end of the GMCs better. I went back to the Chevy dealer yesterday to pick up my '99 after some service was completed. The salesman saw waiting for my truck to brought out front and came up to make another run at me. I called him on the ultra low trade offer, and told him I had looked it up on the dealership's own web site where the average trade in was $9,000 and average retail was $12,000. He says "I didn't do that, the used car manager did that". Then he asked if I wanted to sit down and try again. I said sure, give me the same price we agreed on yesterday and give me $9,000 trade on my '99. :brow I'm still driving the '99.:rofl

Sell your old one outright then do the call to the online manager and say you have CASH !!
Get preaproved from your bank or credit union before you call.
This is the same as cash to a dealer.
One bad trick the dealer can do is sell you the truck at stated price and extend their payments to you to jack the price up. They do this by adding extra payments on the payoff.
Example: at say $15,000 @ $400 a month non-ripoff payments would end in 40 months or so, and they would set you up for 60 months at the same $400 !!!
Extra profit for them.
They got me this way once,,,:cuss ,,dq
