Just poking around and found a fuse blown in the "backup" light fuse holder. There are no backup lights...but changed the fuse anyway. Now the "Brake" light on the dash flashes....haven't had a chance to go back out yet to pull the fuse i put in....to see if the Brake light goes out.
I didn't know they had codes....just kidding

Glad to hear your bulb works! I had to search and search to find this odd bulb. Most places thought I was a whack job when I tried to explain I was looking for a bulb that flashes. :rofl I ended up finding some but had to buy a 10 pack for about $17 dollars! I kept a few for my cars and sold the rest on ebay. :D They were a big seller too! (I might get another pack just to sell)

The brake light button switch is very close to the fuse box you were "poking" around in.. Check the switch button and rule out having bumped it out of postion.. Very easy to do..

Well....I took the fuse out and the light stopped blinking. As I mentioned ... the fuse was blown. I do not know how long it has been out or what. I will check the button you mentioned

BTW...Old School....you won't have to be on another board that has to do with offshore boats...would you?

Does anyone know where I can get a wiring schematic of a 62 Belair? I possibly could be opening a can of worms. But the wife got a kick out of the owner's manual....it even tells you how to catch the car in gear when it will not start

Also I see in the manual....that fuse position is for the "backup light, parking light and brake signal light"...

Well, today I took a close look at what you mentioned. And lo and behold....there is no switch anywhere, especially attached to the foot brake mechanism. It is a shame, you buy a vehicle and expect it to be correct...BUT

Now I will look for the wires...that mostly likely are tied together since the brake light on the dash flashes

I did look for the wires and found taped together up under the dash...hidden. Separated the wires....no more "brake" light flashing. now to find a parking brake light mechanism and install it

The bulb is working correctly if you have the emergency brake on . Release the brake and it should go off. ( At least that's the way the 66 works) good luck.:rofl

The saga continues....I believe I have found out that there were 2 types of Parking Brake assemblies for 1962 and not doubt other years near by. Today I will continue my quest for final answer to this. A gentleman has allowed me to pull is PB assembly to take pictures of it to prove it. Some of the PB assemblies have the capability to work the switch to activate the light of the dash and other don't.
Here is a web page I made to show what I have now and will the other pictures

Now if the 2 wires would not have been taped together to activate the light ... after I found the blown fuse this MOST likely would have never started. But being anal as I am...no doubt want ever thing working and working properly

Here's another pic of a '62 parking brake assembly. Note the switch actuating trigger that seems to be missing from the mechanism in the picture link you posted.

Looks like that piece is added on....so the question is ....is this optional? And purchasable. I did buy another brake assembly that is supposed to come out of an Impala
Does anyone have a parts manual? Maybe you can let me know if that part is separate from the assembly and if so, what is the PT#

Nice picture....

62sedan.....Thursday I went to up state PA and pull 2 assemblies out of 62 cars (Biscayne's) both like mine.
