I work at a ready mix company part time. I usually just drive a pick-up around. But I had to jump in a mixer truck and deliver a load of concrete today. It was an old Mack with 2 gear boxes and 10 speeds forward and while driving I thought of CPG and how he would be in 7th heaven with all those gear shifts. Roy:D

When I worked at the truck shop in Vancouver we put together a truck that was going to work in a potato field. It had a 15sp trans, 4sp aux trans and air shifted 2 speed rears. If my math is corect that is like 120 gears. That would keep him busy.
CPG could never drive one of those big diesels anyways. I bet he could never catch on to shifting at 2000 rpm. He might be ok if he had a "Screaming Jimmy" 2 stroke. Ahh a 2 stroke Detroit sounds next best to a 409 with open headers.

Heck, I work (well, I USED to, now I supervise) on 18 wheelers.
They've got Eaton auto shift trannies now. It's a regular gearbox with computer controlled shifting. It's a big trip from those old split range boxes. And they ain't that reliable.
When I drove full time, my truck was a Mack with the three lever box. Two ranges in forward, 5 speeds each. Reverse was 5 speeds in either range as well. Crawl or zoom!
All in all, the truck handled like a big car.
Ah, those were the days.
