Is anyone here heading to the Woodward Cruise Next week in Detroit? I know it's "heavy traffic" for a lot of your 1/4 mile cars, but thought someone might be going?:dunno

Bubbletop61,
You bet I'm going, since I live only 2 miles from Woodward in Royal Oak. Will be parked on the grass at the Pet Supply north of 12 mile road, a friends place. I should be parked by 7 am or so. If others from 348-409 are going and have no site to park their cars. I should be able to line-up a few in the parking lot. But I should have some kind of a count in advance if possible. Also have another location that I was invited to but it's about 15 homes off Woodward just south of 14 mile road (about 2 miles apart) that also said a few 348-409 can come. Both places could be a meeting point. Let me know you intentions.

Dave;
We are going to be there on Thursday and Friday only, need to head out by Saturday AM. Coming with my son and probably another buddy.
From memory there is the Shrine at 12, then what was once the SuzieQ, there are some condos or appartments in there somewhere..., so are you between the Suzie Q and 12 1/2 ( forget the name of 12 1/2??) Or between there and Manus Power Equip, or the HoJo's. Iam guessing oposite the cemetery? Near the woodworkers shop?
We are coming down in a pick-up so won't be cruising but just taking in the most awesome moving car show in the world. It's our third 'Cruise'

Will you be there at the pet shop on Thursday or Friday Night? It would be great to meet and also if there might be a parking spot, it would be ideal.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks
Gar

Gar,
Will be at the Pet Supply on Sat. only as Bob (the friend) has a frim to run the other days. You are correct. His place is between the old Suzie-Q (now a health club) and the apartments. 12 1/2 is called Webster.
The other days I'll try to be just north of 13 1/2 (Normany) on the north bound side in the area of the old Big Boy area. Look for a parked red 62 Impala SS conv. I will have a Tiger away hat on, the orange D. I'll be setting near it most of the time.
The Northwood shopping center (13 mile) as you know is center stage, will have alot of cars and people in it all week. The city of Royal Oak starts to move everyone from Woodward about 8:30 pm each night of the week so except them to ask you to move during the week. They have already started it. What ever you do NO ALCOHOL or it's going to cost you big big time. Had a friend that was hit last year (over $200 plus court cost).
Hope to see you, your son and your friend.

Gar,
They still have it in any Big Boy in Michigan, but that Big Boy has been replaced by a strip mall. That was my hang-out back in 59 thru 66 before I became 21.

I'll be at the Shell gas station just north of 13 mile Thur. afternoon. Will try to
arrive btween 4:00/4:30. If the lot is already filled, 2nd. choice will be the Chrysler
dealer parking lot a few blocks south of the Shell station. I'll be driving a white
67 Suburban.

Hi Gerry;
Glad you picked up on this thread. We look forward to meeting you. Too bad we won't get to see that awesome 61 BBTP. I've been meaning to call you againthis week, but the better half has been away for 10 days and I' m trying to be Mr. Mom...trust me I don't come by it naturally!

Please bring the grille guard with you and we will take care of this at the same time we get to meet. We will be in a Chevy 2500 Crew cab, gun metal grey. See you there. If I recall right the Shell is on the southbond side near F&M? Paquales? There was a Shell on the Northbound side many years ago when Gas was 29 cents a gallon( next door to the Sporthaus).

Gar,

The Shell station I will be at is on the northbound side. There is a small lot
adjacent to the station that holds about 30 cars. The Chrysler dealer is a
few blocks south of the Shell station, on the same side of Woodward.

Royaloak I plan on arriving around 10AM. Let me know if you have room for a 62 Biscayne. I am going to trailer it this year. I have driven for 3 years and with the 4:56 gear it's just to much wear and tear, and the price of fuel is brutal. It's a 225 mile ride from Indiana and it takes a long time at 55mph and 3300rpm.

The cruise was fantastic! Will try to figure out how to post some pics tonight.
Two Sox and Martin cars plus a Dick Landy car all coming off one trailer...private collection...The Mopar lot was well done as always, GM had some nice vehicles out
among them a red 62 BelAir 409 car from the GM Heritage Collection...We had the pleasure of meeting Gerry Gostenik and passed a great evening with Gerry watching all the great cars roll by, then together we met George DeLorean and had about a 2 hour chat with him about Pontiac's racing program in the early 60's....priceless! This was an amazing and colorful chat wouldn't you agree Gerry?

More later

Gar, down by 12 mile Rd. on Saturday there were three 409 cars. Royaloaks 62 convert, his frends 65 and my Biscayne. I think I was the only 409 cruising. Came up by 13 mile Rd. looking for Gerry but couldn't locate him. The weather was a little shakey but a good time was had by all. Hope to do it again next year,it will be my 7th year in a row.

George Delorian has to be in his 70's and is "still at it", working for Dart, the cyl
head/block people. The conversation with George was centered around a 62
Catalina clone of the Royal Pontiac drag car, owned by someone named Ryden.
George shared some great stories and made the evening seem like a trip back
in time. I would say that we got "the royal treatment".
