I am open to your experiences and recommendations about transporters for shipping a boat and trailer from California to Missouri. I am looking for both reliable transporters and a good bargain. Many of you have more experience than I in this department. Any recommendations on where to start?

When I bought my 62 in vegas in 01 I used d.a.s. Dependable auto shippers. The car was shipped enclosed transit from Vegas to Minneapolis Minnesota for either 660 or 880. I picked it up in Minnesota and trailered it home from there. They wanted another 660 or 880 to my door. I went to their big hub and picked it up to save the extra dough. I was extremely happy with the price and service. They had many cars in their lot waiting to be picked up. I would use them again if needed. Hope this helps!

I can tell you who I would NOT use and that is Jet. My 58 arrived with gages missing, was supposed to be delivered to my door from L.A. to IL. in a week. After two weeks had to go to drivers house 120 miles away and pick it up. When I asked driver where gages were he said they weren't in the car when he picked it up, seller said he didn't take them out, driver was surprised that I had seen the car before purchasing. So go figure.:dunno

I checked with the DAS website, and using the zipcodes of the two places, and the mileage (approx. 1800 miles) it spit out a fee of some $4000, which is WAY to high for me. Maybe I need to have it shipped to some regional depot and go fetch it from there, to bring that price down. Since boats aren't mobile, I'm sure there is some fee for moving it on and off the rig that adds some cost.
Any other suggestions on who to contact?

Tom,
That seems way out of line. A couple of years ago I had an Astrovan shipped by DAS from Cleveland to Phoenix for $750 to the local terminal. Obviously fuel costs are higher now but it still seems way off. I may be driving back through your area next month. I wonder if I might be able to bring it for expenses? I will have to think about that. What size is it? Is it that 409 powered boat that recently sold on EBay? The one with the 690 heads and 2x4's? I have an 18 ft car trailer, would it fit on the trailer?
