I've been following that big auction up in Wisconsin much of the day, missed all the parts yesterday. The two "bubbletops" everyone was talking about sold for $15,000 and $18,000. The Red one (lot 2025A) was a 409 four speed. It took 35 bids and sold for $15,000. The "Pewter/Silver" one was likely an Impala-made-into a Bel Air (VIN was 1837 Impala I think), had the Red interior, 409 four speed, sold for $18,000 with 37 bids.
Interesting!

Alot of guys cut the roof off of 1961 impalas and graft them to 1962 impala bodies to create a clone 62 belair sport coupe (bubble top).
that is what Tom was mentioning.
We all know that you could not get a bubble top Impala in '62.

DropTop is correct. I think there's a fella in Texas who advertises in Hemmings, and does about two a year upon request. I talked to him over the phone a few years' back, he was real up front and honest. Wasn't trying to fool anyone into thinking these were "real 1962 Bel Air sport coupes". I'm sure others have attempted said "conversion". That's what I was referring to when I said "The "Pewter/Silver" one was likely an Impala-made-into a Bel Air (VIN was 1837 Impala I think)" :) :) :)
At least they were honest about the VIN, the auctioneers said to "check it out". I'm just guessing that it was "made".
Hey, I wonder what a 1961 Bel Air Sport coupe would look like with a 1962 Impala roofline??? :).
Cheers,
