I was over at the nieghbors the other day and he asked me if I wanted some free chevy engine parts before he tossed them out. It turns out they are all 409 parts except for a couple of items. I got a std. bore block that has less than .002 taper and still has cross hatched cyls. I also got some 340hp heads, around 24
425hp pistons and rods, a goood std. steel crank , oil pan, 64 425hp factory cam,
and some other things. I asked what he wanted he just said "get it all out of here before I call the junk man I thought you might like all this stuff". The block need the waterjackets welded but for free who cares. I thought I have really nice neighbors.:)

Now that i'm on the net everyday and hear all this talk about 409 pistons everywhere, I can't help that I should be banging my head on the wall.:bang In 97 when I had my engine rebuilt, I found out I had a few pistons broken. I decided it would be best if I replace all 8 but had no where to get OEM pistons. After a few calls, my mechanic said he found 3 in Michigan and suggested we send them to California and get the other 5 made from the 3 from Michigan. It took me about 4 months to get my 409 rebuilt. I guess I could of gone to a performance shop but it seemed like the right call at the time.:dunno

Thanks, ya he's a good guy and I told him I would buy him dinner someplace so I hope that's ok, he is a rally nice old guy. Out of all the pistons there are 12 good std. ones so I can make a good 425hp motor out of it. The block is a 4412 casting I think and it has an X on the front of it. I even got a windage tray too going to get that block welded and make me a new motor. Sure hope those new aluminum heads come out soon I need something differant than the othe 09'ers he in the cold country.:)
