Okay, will all of the 2wheel drive 4 speed Saginaws and whatever, bolt up to the 348/409 standard bell housing? 10 spline, 4 bolt etc. Does anyone know how many different GM cars had 4 speed manual trannys? I figure Camaro's & Firebirds at least. And also, does anyone have one for sale?
Thanks

As far as my limited knowledge goes, I believe they will. I have a Saginaw just laying in the shop. Send me a PM...

As long as its a GM, car 4-speed it will work. Be careful with those saginaws. A mild small block will take one out. A 348 or a 409 will eat one for lunch.

Stay away from the Saginaw unless you plan on bringing a broom with you to sweep up the parts when you destroy it.

Bob, any Muncie or Borg Warner will bolt up to your bellhousing. Give John a call he's in Anaheim Cal. (Johns four speeds). He has a garage filled with them.

was wondering if anyone has ever used a T5 5speed with a 348/409 ? Not sure if they would hold up and can't afford a tremec 500/600 right now. Might end up going with a super T10 like original. FIFT9ER.:help :bang

To the best of my knowledge the T5 was never put behind any V8 larger than 302 (F) or 305 (GM), and those were the World Class variant. I suspect that even a 250 HP 348 driven vigorously would put a World Class T5 in jeopardy.

I've been running a 4 speed Saginaw behind the 468 in my '61 Wagon, and my brother has one behind a "mild(?)" 355 SBC in an Elky without issue. Granted, I haven't done any John Force style burnouts or real hard launches with it, but it's held up fine so far. I can't speak for my brother's driving style, other than it was used in a DD, but he never broke his transmission as far I know.

Of course, YMMV.

Mike,
If you drive like a sane person, the saginaws are just fine. What I meant was that if you really decide to bang the gears, they won't hold up as well as a muncie.
