Since we've had a few spammers posting here lately, thought I'd start a post about it. First off, never, ever click on any of the links in a spammers post. That is what they are hoping you'll do. Odds are it's just something to try and sell you but you could be clicking on something that will cause a virus or who knows what.
Secondly, no need to respond to them. As soon as I see them, I remove them. It takes but a few seconds to remove them so no big deal. Not only do I remove the post(s) but I ban the member in that he/she/it can no longer post again using that name. As if that's not enough, I also take the IP number and add it to the ban list so they can no longer access any of the pages on the entire site! :takethat
I believe these registrations may somehow be done by automation but not sure. Recently I had to remove similar posts made in our Events pages on a daily basis. (they seem to have given up lately however) I've also had many similar posts in the guestbook in the past. I still to this day see error listings from someone trying to post spam in it so it tells me it's a robot of some type. (or should I call it a "spambot")
So don't worry, these type of posts won't last long when they do show up. I nuke them as soon as I spot them. This sort of thing is common on message boards and is just one of the evils of internet life I'm afraid. We don't have it as bad as some sites anyway. :)
Stay safe and don't click on any of them. :)
