I've only been messing around with W's for a few years so compared to a lot of you guys I'm still a rooky.
Over the years 690's and 583's have had a hard time surviving...... springs breaking & getting pounded beyond repair, being over heated or being frozen & cracked etc. etc........
There's not that many of them left......... There seems to be lots of dual four manifolds left. They're on Ebay all the time, my question is why do they hold their value so well....... $300-$500 seems to be where they usually sell and it doesn't make sense to me. Do all the people that buy them really think they are going to find a set of heads to bolt them to????........ I know that you can cut the ears off & use them on low HP heads but why not buy a new Offy ???

The numerous listings for these intakes has me baffled too.
Some have hit $900-$1,000. The difference for the ones sold in the $400-$500 range. :dunno maybe due to tags, proper front and back carbs, and dates I suppose.
In addition...why aren't there as many dual-quad air cleaners available for sale? Factory dual quad intake = factory dual quad air cleaner. ....and why $1,000±? IMO...if not being used as a points show-car, (with an excellent or re-conditioned original) and want to retain the factory look...a re-pop would be the better choice in terms of price. There may be an issue in terms of "fit" that I think I read here somewhere...not sure. Anyways, most of the originals I've seen being offered on EBAY are pretty banged up.
I always think of "opportunity cost", as well as, the text-book definition of value for real estate and in the same sense...property/chattels. Here it is...called the "Principle of Substitution" I do think the idea is transferrable to other market items.
"A buyer will not pay more than it will cost to buy an equally desirable substitute property"....item. Also...Theory..."Cost and Value" do not necessarily equate.
Some of the aftermarket, Hot-Rod, air cleaners are very presentable in their own right if "factory" isn't" an issue. Plus you get to see the carbs and linkage better.
Yeah...why not Offy if being used on the small port heads anyways? :scratch.

I picked up an 881 dual quad intake for 200 bucks on ebay. I like it better then the Offy because it just looks cooler. I don't like the angle of the Offy oil fill tube and then there's the problem with the draft tube opening not having a splash guard. Here's a picture of my 333 heads I had machined to line up better with the HP intake runners. They've got the 206/172 valves. It's not a perfect match, but pretty close. Don't mean to slam you Offy guys, but I really don't think 99% of the people really notice it anyway.
