Which Shop Manual from Chevy has all the poop about the 409? I have a 63 book which gives it minimal coverage. Does the 61 or 62 book go over the engine in detail, or does they make like it's a bored and stroked 348, and refer you back to a 58 book?
Thanks

One of the best I have seen is an older non chevy publication but I am not able to refer you to it here I am sure Fatride,Oldskydog, and of course Realss, and TomK, have some good sources they can share after they get up from Turkey:rofl :rofl :rofl
That might be this one here.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Musclecar-Hi-Po-Engines-Chevy-348-409_W0QQitemZ180051945432QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33615Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem I just bought one last month. It has lots of information for modifying the 348 & 409.

I have that book, it's very good, got a lot of stuff from Hot Rod and Car Life back in the day. But what I wanted was the "official" GM version.
The 62 shop manual 409 section 8-3 refers to the 61 shop manual saying it's "basically the same as a 348" It does refer to section 16 as having all the specs on the 409. Section 10 covers the dual quad option, but thats about it. Mac

Thanks guys, I guess the assembly manual reprints Late Great puts out has more detail than the GM service manual. I find it interesting to look at the way it was supposed to be, rather than what someone or someoneS did to our cars before we owned them.
By the way, I really believe there is more knowledge about the engines and the cars on this board than all the magazines and books I have collected over the years. You folks should be proud.
