I have a small problem deciding which way to build this motor. All Ideas are welcome
I have two small blocks. The first is a 1966 283, bored to 292cid . it has power packed heads and a mild cam . It's been 25 years since the rebuild so the specs are long gone. The heads were cut .025 . This motor ran pretty good 25 years ago. its been on an engine stand since then. (I turn it over every 6 months or so.
The second is a complete 327 from a1968 car . this motor was rebuilt about 300 mile before it was taken off the road. It has low compression Mexican heads.
What I would like to do is take the crank out of the 292 block and install it in the 327 along with the power pack heads and a model grind cam. Any pro or cons on the set up?:rofl

Jester,
There may not be as much choice as you might think. The 283 is a small journal crank and if the 68 is really a 68 it should be a large journal crank. If your'e thinking about making a 302 it will get expensive either way because you have to buy special pistons due to the compression height.

I have a set of main bearings to put a 283 crank in a big journal 327-350 block.
They are standard and NOS TRW $200. if anyone cares

Heck,,, I would just rebuild the 327, use the power pack heads and make that sucker scream !!!!

I agree with dq, just put the heads on the 327. If you're going with a mild cam, it sounds like it's not going to be a high rpm motor so no need to destroke it with the 283 crank. Even so, a 327 will buzz right up there with a 302 all day long.
