I hope I die at the age of 94...being shot to death by a jealous husband.

When I die, I may not go to Heaven,
'Cause I don't know if they let mechanics in.
If they don't, just let me stay in Texas;
'Cause Texas is as close as I've been.
Y'all

Now, if this don't start an argument, nothing will!!!:argue: :rofl :cuss

No argument from me, born and raised there. Back to visit this weekend. I'll make it back for good someday, I hope before they bury me.

Well, I wasn't born here, but as they say, I got here as quick as I could. Wound up hitchhiking from Oklahoma, because my little Chevy II flung a rod plum through the block, up by Eufaula. An Oklahoma State Trooper stopped and asked if I was going to be able to fix it!! I simply said, "Yep." This made him happy, and he got back in his car and sped away.
That Chevy II was still there beside the road two weeks later when I went to get it. Those were the good ole days.

Last time I was in Texas was 1977. We were on a road trip that started in Port Orchard, Wa that took us across the northern part of the country to NY state. Then headed south down the Atlantic coast to Keywest and then up the gulf coast and across the southern part of the country to CA. Then north to point of origin. And the best part of all we were cruisin in a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville 2-door hardtop 389 four barrel. We had a couple of Texas Rangers pull us over wanted to know what we were doin so far from home.:rofl :rofl We said we were just out for a drive and thought we would check out the Gulf. They said we had better head on home.:rofl :rofl So we did.:takethat

Wow, that's like a cool ride. But that sounds more like something a State Trooper (Highway Patrol) would do instead of a Texas Ranger. Were they in a black/white cruiser?
Anyway, in the mid 70's Texas was experiencing a great influx of northern transplants, many of them refugees from the law. Stops like what you mentioned, regrettably, became commonplace for quite a while.
P.S. Love them Ponchos, I have a pretty sweet 69 GTO.

I can't remember if it was I-10 or I-20 that we were on but, the funny thing about it was we were traveling west and the eastward bound lanes were maybe 70 to 80 feet below and a fair distance away to the south. We noticed in the far horizon to the west flashing lights in the east bound lane. They kept getting closer and closer and as the patrol car passed us the driver stuck his arm out the widow and pointed at us. We thought what in the heck do they want? I was driving and just continued west bound and didn't really think anything about it. Well about ten minutes later there he was in my rear view mirror. He was gaining fast on us and I just kept driving thinking they must be after someone else. finally the patrol car was right on my A$$ but there was no shoulder to pull off to. At this point of the interstate was guardrail that continued for miles with no shoulder so I continued to drive the speed limit with my right blinker on for about another 10-15 miles with this patrol car on my A$$ lights a flashen... Finally the guardrail ended and there was a shoulder to pull over so, I did. Now I remember these guys as being Texas rangers. They both exited their vehicle and proceeded to to approach our 63' Bonnie. One on either side of the vehicle. All they did was ask us what we were doing so far from home and, told us we had better get back there as I mentioned in the previous post. Didn't write us a ticket or anything. They did check our ID's. Never been back.

C'mon Dan!!! Those would have been State Troopers, not Rangers. They have the reputation of writing their own relatives tickets. My Fire Dept. ID has gotten me out of many tickets, but not when the State Troopers are involved. Answer was always the same. " You are a public servant,,, you should know better." So actually they showed you guys much courtesy. No ticket!! Come on down for another visit and I will treat you to a great chicken-fried steak... :) :)

I`ve seen thses guys in action on TV.
Seems they are looking for out of staters that are running dope.
Any reason to pull you over or none at all and they will just to see your reaction.

Seems that east west interstate is a main hiway for the drug runners.

I`ll stay up north,,,dq
