zippy, Some use band type compressor used upside down. I use fingers. When all else fails you can use gearhead's big hammer.

Big hammer produces multi-piece low-tension rings.:rofl :rofl Took that picture when I was only 59. Now that I am 60, don't think I can pick it up any longer.:bang :cuss :doh

Zippy, in all the years that I have worked on W engines I have cut ring compressors to fit the block and turned them upside down but the best is your fingers. Your fingers get sore after a while but take a break and you won't break rings. The hardest to get started is the oil rings but after that the going gets easier.:clap Roy

I just finished installing 16 pistons in two "W' blocks. used my fingers
and a small rubber hammer. Had no problems, just be slow and careful.
No blood either.

zippy, I'm sure you recognize that the big hammer picture is a joke. I've had a lot of fun with it . Install pistons with oil ring gaps to the bottom.(outboard) As Roy said , they want to jump out because they are so thin. Install with oil ring gaps at the bottom, they can't pop out. Good luck.

Thank you all for the info just trying to prevent any hold ups when the t ime comes. Ronnie there is nothing better than good info with some good humer. As for sore fingers i can allways take a 12oz. break After all we dont need to take the fun out of this by making it like work now do we?
