I have a lobe going away on the cam in my 377.It's a Summit 1105. I 'd like some opinions on Crower,Crane and Lunati and their quality, So when I put the new cam in it will be no trouble.
I do NOT want to use a Comp Cams cam, I have a sour taste left from dealing with those fools.
Thank s for looking..ED

Ed -

I've used cams from all those manufacturers. Comp Cams is so big and the tech support can be pretty arbitrary. Never know if you are getting opinion or facts. Other than that, I have been using Lunatis without a problem. I've always wanted to use a Clay Smith for the uniqueness and nostalgia of it, but I don't know the cost.

I bought a Crane cam for a replacement. The reason I will not go to Comp Cams is about15 years ago I bought cam from them and they would not warranty it unless I used THEIR lifters. 35000 miles later my oil pump shaft snapped at 70 MPH and I lunched the engine. When I pulled the engine and was checking things out ,I found a piece of wire in between the pump gears, looking further I found more wire pieces in the pan. After flipping the engine over I found that one of the lifters had lost it's retaining clip. I was using a stock pump and it fit through the pump screen. When I called them up , they basically told me to go f*** myself.
They can keep their garbage.........Ed

Crane !!!

I had a Crane cam go bad in 20 minutes, my fault,,,,,bad block and they had no problem sending a new one !!!

I have bought from Comp before and got very different answers from the tech boys,,,,, like they were reading from a tech manual.
Crane`s tech guys, on the other hand, sounded like they knew what they were talking about !! No problems talking at length about what you wanted to know.

Without a doubt... Crane has a high quality product and knowledgable tech help. They have always treated me right.

I ended up getting involved with Comp Cams when I pursued this Stocker project. Crane, Isky, Lunati, Crower... ALL showed nothing available, and no interest in doing it:( .
I called Comp Cams, who I had never used, and talked to a couple different people. All showed interest, and they put me through to the fellow who works directly with the stocker program... Chris Pagent. We discussed the theories, and they made a camshaft EXACTLY to the specs I requested... and I can tell you, those weren't "mainstream";) .
Great service, and excellent follow-up.
I have their master "profile" catalogue, which lists all the lobe designs that they make... literally 100's. Yes, I agree, sometimes "Cam Help" can be a bit general... so, I don't use it !
I simply "create" lobe combinations from the catalogue, and they make it for me... no extra cost:deal

The new cam is in and it really made a difference! That old cam had THREE flat lobes! I've been driving it all over the place now that it's running good and pulling the shifter on that Muncie sure can make a guy grin. :D Now that it runs ok,I gotta make it pretty. Thanks for all the opinions. Ed
