We did a few threads on mufflers.

Walker Royal Scotts. These units are no longer available. (Walker Web Site). This was a bottle type muffler (A tan/copper colour out of the box).

Its just my opinion.... and I don't have any experience with the newer products available today....but I thought these were the best sounding "performance type" mufflers ever. Plus they fit very nicely (not too visable) under the front floor pans of the Impala. Incredibly low rumble (echo) at idle and smooth at cruise...with a nice high-end pitch at higher rpms without the usual ear-popping cackle of a bottle type muffler. I'd buy them again.

Other bottle type mufflers were way too loud by comparison. I had these on the red 62' back in the early 1980's. My question is... does anyone have an opinon on what would be a comparable type muffler?

Maybe I should look on EBAY for vintage mufflers?????:rofl

Not loud 'til you get on it. Fits the big Chevys like a glove

I had those DynoMax on my Van with a perfromance 327 and they sounded great !

I still say that the Flowmaster 50 Delta Series is a great sounding muffler.
Sometimes I have quoted myself as saying the 40 series but I get confused between the 40`s and 50`s.

The 50 series is the quieter one and you can talk without yelling while driving.
They don`t have that hollow Flowmaster drone and sound more like the DynoMax but are less restrictive.

Sound Clips,,,,, I don`t think the 50 Deltas sound this hollow on my full exhaust though,,, I find they have a deeper tone with a more agressive deep tone on WOT,, I think this might be due to our cars having a thicker metal body the the unibody cars of today.

This is what I run on the 60. They do not sound like Flowmasters at all. I run with a crossover pipe. Tone is mellow with a good strong idle until you turn up the wick! Then it has kind of a BLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPP sound, but not unpleasant, not crackly. Kind of a 60s sound.

Hey fatride, where did you put your crossover?:scratch

Crossover pipe is between the trans bellhousing and the trans oil pan. Trans is 700R4. The crossover pipe must be at least 4' long. Seems to me I posted pictures at on time. If you are serious about installing a crossover I can take pictures. Exhaust is 2.5, crossover is 2".

Thanks Fatride, but don't think that will work with my setup. I am having full length headers made. Collector flanges will go outside the frame left and right. Remember seeing someones pics of a crossover around the middle of the "X". Would like the noise control and performance from a crossover. I will be using 3" pipe into Flowmaster 40's or 50's, into Nascar bangs.
