Does anyone know if the 63 Nova SS Powerglide Floor shifter is the same as the 63 Impala SS Auto Floor Shifter?
Thanks-
Brian

I'm sure it is but our resident expert Ross (impalaguru) can probably tell you for sure. I have quite a few of the original shifters and the main difference between them is that the bench seat cars had the dogleg (S shaped) stick whereas the console (SS) cars stick was straight or slightly bent .

Do you have any that you would be willing to part with?

Another brain phart!:doh You are right. I was thinking in general about the stick differences on the 3 and 4 spd shifters. I'm pretty sure though that in my collection of over 65 original GM and Ansen shifters there is probably at least one dogleg PG shifter. Probably someone changed the handle so he could have a floorshift in his PG bench seat car.
Brain, what do you need? I just dug them all out the other day and they are still scattered all over the shop floor. Don't expect show quality though as most are driver condition and will need the handle rechromed to be really nice.
I also have a 63 SS powerglide trans with shifter that I bought years ago thinking it would be the same as the 63 Corvette. Wrong as usual. I believe it was rebuilt and never run as it is clean and dry with no grease or oil anywhere.
I was thinking about putting the shifters on EBay but if anyone here needs something let me know.

I believe that the 63 SS PG shifter is a unique unit, as far as the stick is concerned. The Nova is straight and the Impala shifter is bent towards the driver near the bottom.
Cecil, I think the Corvette shifter is quite a bit shorter than the SS shifter. I've never seen one out of a car, though. I also think that the Nova and 'Vette PG tailshaft was a different length than the Impala. I could be wrong there.
I posted a picture of every floor shifter for a full size Chevy in 1963. Left to right: 4-speed bench seat, SS powerglide, SS 4-speed. The stick at the far right is also for a super sport 4-speed but its the later style and it's thicker. Tommy has sent me some shifter pics over the years and he had a bench seat 4-speed stick that he believed was out of a 63, that had a larger "arc" as it bent towards the driver. I think there were some variations but the ones pictured should give you a good idea as to what should be poking out of the floor in a 63 Chevy!!

I forgot to mention that the powerglide shifter is incorrectly labeled 64 Impala. The 64 shifter is much different.

Ross,
The Corvette shifter is definitely shorter. I was referring to the transmission when I said I thought it was the same as 63 Corvette but it is not. I have at least one of every shifter pictured and more of some.
