My 348 has been sitting for a long time (8 years since I've had it). What do I need to do to get it running? -Mike

This is not scientific, but I have always heard: remove the spark plugs, put a wrench on the crank pulley and make sure it will turn over, (this was mainly for junk yard purchases), spray some light oil into each cylinder, rotate the pistons a little, put in new plugs, double check the timing, give it gas and hope for the best. I just bought a 350 small block I am about to do the same thing to.

Hmmmmmm, I don't mean to be funny,,,,,but,,,,,,, by the looks of that picture , a complete rebuild comes to mind. But, not being able to see the internals, as stated. You may be able to oil up the cylinders, install new plugs, oil filter put a carb on her and who knows. I have seen some engines fire that looked worse! :dunno

Looks like you're going to need a carb, a source for fuel (tank, pump, lines), not sure if there's a distributor there, but you'll need plugs, wires, all that goes with "spark". First I'd see if she reciprocates (already mentioned), then hook up the basics and see if she'll fire.
Let us know how it goes!

Prime the oil system before you crank it up.

I would say to pull the intake and see how much moisture damage there is.
Looks like it has sat without a carb or spark plugs for a LONG time !!
If you see rust on the lifters and such I would also pull the heads and look at the cylinders.
A gasket set isn`t that expensive compared to the damage you could do by trying to start a rusty engine,,,
my guess is a rebuild also,,dq
