Thanks,
Wasn't able to see the numbers there wasn't enough room between the frame and the floor. I have a 65 Impala 396 power glide car. The vin tags match on the car and it looks like the orignal rivets but the paint code is blue on blue and the car is gold with gold interior and it does not look like the car was ever repainted.
I talked with people who say it is comon for the car to leave the factory with the wrong paint code.
I guess the only way I will know for sure is to take the body loose and find the frame vin numbers.

If the VIN is the same on the frame, what does that prove? You still have a gold car with a blue paint code! If the frame VIN doesn't match you either have a car with a switched frame or a possibly illegal "tagged" car. I think I would not bother and either enjoy the gold or paint it blue!

That's exactly where it is... You can see it with a mirror , but you'll need to illuminate the area with a drop light.
16437 Is an Impala HT with V-8 (not SS) and if the VIN tag on the left hinge pillar is original and matches your title, you should be good to go.

looking at my book it does not even show a listing number for gold interior in a 65 impala? :scratch does the material and the panels look correct for 65? it shows a fawn and beige as a interior choice. a lot of things can happen in over 40 years someone might have switched out the interior from a later year or had it dyed? does it have the original engine and drive train, not trying to be nosey i just like 65 chevies.:takethat doc

I bought the car from a guy who works for me, and he said his aunt bought it new from Felix Chevrolet in Los Angeles Ca. The car was built in South Gate Ca so every thing seemed to be on the up and up I just have a problem with the paint code. I has 66,000 or 166,000 miles it has the original interior which is more fawn and beiges than gold. It had a 325 hp 396 cu in big block, the engine had low compresion on 2 cylinders so I put a crate HO 502 in it until I get a chance to rebuild the 396. All of the tag match the title and I did not have any problems transfering into my name. I have even had the Highway patrol look at it and they tell me they don't look at the paint code and not to worry about it
Thanks to all who responded

Nice looking car,. Paint that nice would seem to be a re-paint to me.
For such a short owner history what happened to the "black plates"?

It was the 4,972nd 65 Impala 2dr V8 sport Coupe body built at Framingham Mass. in the third week of January, 1965 and was Regal Red with Black interior , tinted windshield, padded dash?. The other codes, S and L I'm not sure of.
Your VIN tag shows the 25,367th 65 Chevy built at the Framingham plant.
I'm sure others will correct me if any of this is incorrect.
