Rusty’s beautiful 62 Belair at US 41. Verlin Hale at the helm. If this car
didn’t run so well you could call it a show car! It’s beautiful!

While I’m on cars I’d love to have in my garage…….

My favorite 63 of all times

Ok Cecil…I know it’s red but red Impalas have an attraction for me.
This one is Valarie McCombs

The one I can't find is Bob Walla's! Bob....you have to get in front of
Michael's camera more often!

Last…but not least! (this has nothing to do with 409s) The spirit of
Jungle Pam will live forever!

OH YEAH! One I forgot! Aubury, since you're closer to the left side of the
continent I don't get to see your car. But it's outstanding!

The real problem, when you start posting pictures of super "W" cars, is there are SOOooo many you're bound to miss some great ones.!

Thanks Dick... but it's no where NEAR what the cars above are:bow .
Definitely a "60 footer"... er, maybe not.
Average 60 foot is a 1.75. This picture was a 1.78. Initial hook, then the tires just let go, and spin right through first gear:dunno

Might be a "100 footer" ?:p

One NASTY 60! ET and MPH of 8.23 @ 171!!!

Not sure what the 60' would be but I know where I'd be ..... in back

Finaly got my heads done, maged, flowed, all new valve train and have been working nites to get it done. Got hung up on a valve clearence issue so I had to redo them completly.
Computer says 672 at 7000! Minus the 18% loss through the drivetrain theres still a huge number making it to the wheels :D We will see soon enough on the dyno.

Nap time....

:bow Man, Rusty's car sure is nice. Does anybody know what kind of times he's running?

That Mustard III car is really fast, mid 8's I think.:scratch It's got a factory 409 block and heads and a big blower. When he was at Kansas City he pulled the best wheelstand I've ever seen. The wheels came up as he left the line and it just kept slowly rising. He finaly had to lift, or maybe he shifted to get it to come down. Anyway, he must have been doing about 80mph with the front wheels way up in the air.

That 62 is sweeeeet!!! I'd like to hear more about the Mustard III also.

Man, this is a great forum, so many spectacular early Chevys.

Does that Black car of Rusty's have some alminum up front? Inners looks kinda light colored. What are the fenders made of? Bumpers?

Really nice pics, Jim!

I believe the article said the fenders and doors were carbon fiber by vfn. They said the inner fenders were stamped alluminum by an unknown source.

Aubrey,
What clutch are you using and are you capturing your runs to a data acquisition system? We had a lot of clutch problems and we were not able to get wheel spin under control until we went to a Boninfante single disk clutch. It's almost infinitely adjustable. I can move slippage between the tires and the clutch at will.
The Boninfante family is a great bunch of guys with a long history of involvement in drag racing. Nick Sr., Nick Jr., cousin Nick and Rob Boninfante, obviously a family run operation. :rofl
When you walk through the shipping room the box labels are a who's who of drag racing. They really know what they are doing.

Dick... I have an 11 pound aluminum flywheel, 10.5" aluminum McLeod "Soft Lok" pressure plate, custom made sintered iron disk. I run it 4 turns ( of 11 ) "in", with a bit of counter weight. When cold... it'll slip if I snap the throttle at low RPM.
That video watching the test ride on the highway.... I'm letting the clutch out between 3000-3500 RPM ( engine makes peak torque between 4600-4900 ).

I think the clutch is good. Simply a case of a very inexperienced drag-race chassis man:doh .
It's being dealt with:deal ... as a result of much help from our late friend, Mr. Totten:bow

Aubrey, This might be one more place your new lighter wheel and tires might help. There was a thread on a racing forum where a couple of guys with stick cars found the launch was much easier to control with lighter wheels. They said it seemed like once the heavier wheels started spinning they wanted to keep on spinning.
