We have been collecting parts for a few years now and now it is time to start having some fun:brow The rolling chassis is in the garage ready for measuring up and teardown, and of course many questions come up for the first time restorer of a 61 Impala...
While measuring up the frame to check for alignment and squarness, we have discovered some things that make us think that there were some differences in the chassis and certain hole locations, over the 61 to 64 years. We are using
a chassis diagram by "Liskey" but it is a diagram for a 64 frame. One dimension
is off by 3-4 inches ( linear, not diagonal measurements) which I would think is because GM changed these frames over the years, or Mr. Liskey was into the golden ale when he made the drawings. :cheers
I have read most of the posts on 348-409 that have "frame" in them, and learned of one difference in the 61 chassis...it has those BIG holes in the back side of the cross member outboard of the frame rails. This was observed from a comment made by someone else, concerning a pic of Tommy's frame for the car he is working on now. Everything that gets written up here helps someone.
WOuld really appreciate any help you can send.
Thanks
Gar
Does anyone have a print of a 1961 chassis diagram from a body/frame shop reference manual that they could send to us by PDF or FAX? This would be most helpful. right now.
Does anyone know what some of the differences in these frames might nave been over the years?
