Anybody know the deck height for the 348-409?:deal
Would the proper measurement be taken from the crank centerline to the deck at the centerline of the bore?

Jim, I'm almost sure that 348-409 deck height is same as big block 9.8 Doing crude measure, it appears to be from crank centerline to inboard deck surface. I'm sure others will have better description.

Have been corrected by those who know. Correct deck height number is 9.6

gearhead, I would think since the 409 is a 74 degree block or is it 76 ? my memory is bad but at any rate , that the measurement would be taken inboard and not at center of cyl. The farther you measure down, the more distance from crank center. If it were 90deg. it would be the same top to bottom. This is the way I see it, I could be wrong.

thanks guys, Jim ss409 posted this up for me, Im looking at options for stroking other than the ross or showcars pistons, 427 crank etc.
Just laying some numbers out and seeing what I can come up with, I have a 348 block available so thats what Im basing this off of.

Ill start a new post for some other info I need.

I notice that the Chevrolet Big Block Muscle Cars book by Anthony Young shows the 348-409 deck height as 9.8" (same as the regular big block):dunno

I'm pretty sure the deck angle is 74 deg.:scratch

Ross makes the only 348-409 forging for pistons. Ross or Childs and Albert is the only one machininig pistons on a regular basis. You can get them whithout the pin drilled and have your machine shop do it for the stroke you are using.
