I'm getting ready to make the switch. I think I have all the required parts. I found a 8.75 rear housing for a dodge that has an axle to axle measurement of 60". I save the brackets from the bent housing I removed from the 64 two years ago.
I'll be welding them on the Mopar housing and , hopefully , have all kinds of fun this summer. I also plan on using the stock upper and lower control arms but I'm thinking of tring coil over shocks instead of the stock spring. It depends on how much room I have between the rear and the tank.
Any body have any thoughts on this ?:rofl

Sounds like a good setup.:beerbang I'm not sure coil overs will work on the stock Chevy shock mounts. The upper end at the frame might be okay but the lower mount at the control arm might not be good. It's only got a little flat spot to keep it from twisting and might not stay in position with the extra pressure. :scratch I'm sure you could come up with something stronger if there's room but you'd probably want to check before ordering shocks.

Thanks Jim . I thought about that shock problem. I think I'll see if there is room to squeeze the coil over in straight up and down. That will mean that I will need to weld a bar in acroos the top for the upper mount. Straight North and South , as far to the outside as possible. The problem is the fuel tank. I might need to put a cell in the trunk. Just my thought.

If you do the fuel cell in the trunk there would be plenty of room. NOt sure if the tank was in the factory location. Wouldnt be to bad to weld in an upper crossmember. Before you weld up the rearend, get some shock mounts that weld to the rearend. Youd be good to go. That 8 3/4 should hold up to alot of abuse. And its not a f@rd part.:evil

I`ve seen the Mopar rear in one of our years and it works great !
I have a whole coilover setup for my 62 that I never installed.
Use a round bar welded to the upper frame for the top mounts and use an adjustable mount with plenty of holes for the upper and lower mounts like these.

Jester,

Bob (Region Rat) has a mopar rear in his 64 Chevy. You might want to get a hold of him. You can find his phone numbers at http://www.409raceparts.com I'm sure he can help you.
