I have a new ignition switch for '58 Impala. My problem is I can't figure out how to get the lock and cylinder out of the old switch. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Once I get it out I assume the reverse to get it back in..........right? Thanks

Isn't there a small hole just to the right of the key slot? Should accept a paper clip to disengage the cyl. I seem to recall that the key needs to be in the 'on' position to get it to release. (?) Gosh, it's been sooo loonngg since I had to do anything like that. I may be foggy on this. But the new one should just pop right back in, no matter what position it's in.

You need to have the key in the ignition, stick a small wire into the hole, as described above. You can then remove lock set from housing. Then you'll be able to unscrew retainer ring and remove complete unit. I don't think you need to use the wire when putting back together.

1958 Delivery is correct, you need the key in the switch to turn the key cylinder. Put the switch in the ACC position. Push a stiff paper clip into the small hole in the switch and turn the key counter clockwise past the ACC position. The key cylinder should then come out. Putting it back in is very easy, you don't need the paper clip.

Dick is correct. I have always put the key in the ignition switch then push the paperclip in and turn the key to the ACC position. The lock should continue to turn a little bit past the ACC position then pull out. Good luck.

I have a related question. The lock position on my '58 Biscayne's switch doesn't work. It will turn without the key. Otherwise, the switch functions ok. I got a repro lock cylinder. It installed as you have described. However, the new lock won't turn past the locked position:cuss  I put the original back in so I can at least start the car:doh
Is the switch bad, or did I maybe get a bad lock cylinder?

Thanks for the help. I used a paper clip just as described and it popped right out.
