Hello,
I am helping a friend with his 65 Impala. He is doing an SS conversion and is trying to tie up the loose ends. One question, is the lower part, below the stainless, on the rear arm rest cover a different color that the part above the stainless? Is is vinyl or is it carpet, like the door panels?
Also, are the reflectors on the bottom of the door panel available new?
Rockfish, I'm looking in your direction for some guidance!!:D

Are you talking about the center console ? If so it is carpet, same color as the floor carpet,,dq

Hi Ross!!
The answer to your question #1 is Vinyl. It should be the same color as the carpeting. The stainless band separates the two contrasting colors of vinyl.

#2 UNFORTUNATELY As far as I know, the door panel reflector is not available in reproduction yet. You may want to check with Impala Bob's, Trim Parts, or Eckler's anyways as they have new products coming out all the time. You can always buy a pair of used door panels on eBay and raid them for the stainless and reflectors that you need.

Lastly, I see this common mistake made on '65s all the time. When doing such an upgrade, make sure that you change the lower dash fascia. On SS cars those should be brushed metal, as opposed to regular impala cars which would have simulated wood grain laminate there.

I do know that the SS fascia is available in repro...

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies, guys!
DQ, you're right about the console carpet. Another question about that though, does the 65 SS console have carpet on the inside like a 63 or 64? Is it also colored like the carpet on the floor?

Thanks for the help, Rock! My friend has ran into quite a few little obstacles like these. He's still searching for the SS emblems for the door panels. He's also lacking the upper stainless trim for the door panels. He bought the assembled door panels from CARS, which are nice, but they only come with the lower stainless strip.
He does have the stainless for the dash. He lucked-out and found a near mint set on a 66 4-dr sedan. That wood grain looks a little out of place, in my opinion, even on a regular Impala.
We noticed that the stainless on his old, NON-SS Impala rear arm rest covers is lower than on an SS car. When they are installed they don't line up with the lower stainless on the door panel. They do, of course, match up with the stainless on his old door panels.
His interior is blue. I think the 65 SS interior has one of the most attractive patterns of the early SS I cars.
Thanks again for the assistance!
Ross
