I think all the tail housings and mid plates are the same as far as interchangeability go's for bolting together.
This is for chevy stuff. The differences between the T-10(1964 back) and the ST-10(1974/5? up)
Is st-10 has fine spline input t-10 is course,st-10 has th-400 large out put
shaft, t-10 has th350 small out put (or small course pg not shore on that),
The st-10 has 1" cluster shaft t-10 has 7/8". Most st-10s have aluminum main
case(but not all) I think all t-10's have iron case. Most st-10s have aluminum
mid plate, t-10 has iron. If I have screwed any of this up some one will correct me.

1960 and 1961 Pass and Corvette to 11-60 maincase T10-7B (cast iron), tailhousing T10-148B
1961 Pass and Corvette after 11-60 maincase T10-1C, tailhousing T10-7B
1962 Pass and Corvette maincase T10-1C, tailhousing T10-7D
1963 Pass and Corvette maincase T10D-1, tailhousing T10-7D

Looks like what you have is 62 only. There should be an assembly date and a VIN number stamped on top of the case at the left rear corner.

I did not understand in Cecil's post that 64's were Muncies. Evidently someone put a T10 in my 64. Have i seen that the T10 is tougher than a Muncie?

Thanks

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. Cecil has T10D-1 listed as 63, last year for T10.

He did not mention Muncies.

According to Colvin"s " CHEVROLET BY THE NUMBERS", GM started installing Muncie transmissions in cars after Feb 6,1963 and into Corvettes during the May-June time frame in '63. It appears that all 64's had the Muncie. I don't believe the T10 will take the beating a Muncie will. Leo

I think 1963 muncie transmissions had a one year only front bearing retainer that was smaller than the others.

MR HP, you are correct about the small bearing retainer. This also required the oddball bellhousing with the small hole that was used in 63. I have a book authored by Grumpy Jenkins where he tells us about having a full time guy to rebuild his blown T10's. Ran into another guy that said he had a pallet load of busted T10's. Leo

I would consider the Muncie to be stronger than the aluminum cased T-10. The Iron cased T-10 was stonger because the stiffer case kept the gears in better contact. The super T-10 was stronger than the Muncies.

In the mid-late 70 my brother and I broke almost anything. I killed 3 Muncies in one day. If the counter shaft would loosen up in the case the input to cluster gears would strip of all the gear teeth off. Broke many first gears and a few second gears too.

Never broke a super T-10 in the AMCs.

When we cleaned up here one time we had more than 1/2 a 8' pickup box full of broken 4-speed stuff we hauled in for scrap.

Back in the day my '57 had a '69 Vette/427 iron Super T-10 and It never gave me a hint of trouble in all those years of beating the HOLY C**P out of it.I ran with 6:17 rear gears at the time. Then I went to Zoom 5:57's then I sold them on fee-bay 2 years ago. Now the car has a 3:73 posi in it for the street.I don't rermember the gears in the T-10. You can see by my album pictures that that car was always launched hard.

Does the main housing have a Chevrolet “logo” cast on it?
