63 Biscayne junior stock drag car build

Ok guys. I have been talking about doing this for years, and I now have the canvas to do it on.
Its rough, but you have to start somewhere. Starting with a 6cyl/3 on the tree car.
The plan is to make a car that one could be convinced into believing it was an actual drag car from back in the day. I plan to use period correct, used parts wherever possible.
The car will have racing decals on the window glass, as well as the body, and will be named, and look like it was sponsored by businesses in my home town history.
The best part of this is, I'm doing it for me, so whatever I do, its right.

Do you still have the 63 ss from when you you 15? Very nice project idea you have and I have always wanted to do the same.

Great project Tom!!! Similar to Bob Walker's. Of course the chassis of Bob's is fully updated but the graphics are all period correct and the business sponsors are all gone now but were around in the early 1060's. Looking forward to following your build thread!!

Here is a car that is local to me. I almost bought this a few months back, but the owner has had it for YEARS, and when it came time to exchange cash/title, he got cold feet and decided to keep it for now.
He said I get first shot if/when the time comes.
Car started life a 425-409 4spd, then by 1967 it was a small block modified production car.
I can't put my life on hold waiting for this car, so I've decided to build my own for now.
Couple pics from back in mid to late 60's, then one of it in it's last outing at a Super Chevy race early 90's. Car is a BB427/auto now with early Olds-Pontiac 9.3 rear.

I'm going to letter mine with Glen Holt Chevrolet, as that was our dealer in Three Rivers,Mi back then. Probably include Brownies Radiator as well. Harold Brown was our town radiator guy forever, passed too soon from cancer. Will also mention Barton's Body Shop from back then, and also who I got my parts car from.
Lastly my best friend, who is 15 years older and has been the town GM guru since 1971, Mike Pebler will get mention with a "Tuned by Pebler Performance" on the car as well.

A little info on the project car.
You wouldn't guess by looking at it, but it is a 28,000 mile car.
It sat in a barn from the early 70's until early 2000's when owner #2 purchased it from an estate sale.
He took it to a local bodyshop and had dreams of a full custom with all trim shaved, door handles shaved, drip edges, etc.
I wish I could have happened upon the car myself prior to the butchering, but I probably wouldn't have picked it up cheap.
Anyway, while at the bodyshop the owner not only had a disagreement with the shop over costs, he also got into trouble and did some jail time. While he was in there, the car got shoved outside 7 years ago.
It gets better(worse?), while the car was outside torn apart, with no side windows mind you, the bodyshop went under.
It was purchased by a new owner, and during property transfer almost all the parts taken off the car were thrown in a dumpster.
This included the entire interior except for the front bench, which was sitting in place exposed to the weather, both bumpers, the grill, all side trim, window moldings in and out, etc .
Most people would have passed due to the amount of parts missing, and I would have too if it weren't for the fact that a local old bodyshop also has a 63 Biscayne that has been there since the early 80's, and I think I'm going to be able to pick it up for parts to put mine together.

One thing that struck me as strange with this Biscayne, is that it was wearing a perfect set of full wheel covers.
Would that have been an option on a Biscayne, to order deluxe wheel covers or whatever Chevrolet called them?

That’s the best part of a 63 Biscayne!! :facepalmHere’s to the moron who stripped all the trim off and trashed it. AND welded up all the holes for said trim...
:pan

Great car tho, and a great plan for a project. Looks like that parts car has just about everything you need. Cool that you ended up with Bernie’s old Bel Air I’ve always liked that car. I’ve seen a few original 63 biscaynes and Bel Airs with full hubcaps. I’ve seen a couple original 63 impalas that had dog dish caps too.:dunno

Exactly!
Getting harder and harder to find one of these cars that hasn't been turned into a viper red painted, Chip Foose wheeled turd, complete with braided slip on covers over the hoses, and ugly Edelbrock signature valve covers with the fake 2 piece bolt together look.
No offence to anyone that has the above listed items, its just not my bag.
I'm more of a walk softly but carry a big stick sleeper kind of guy.
Can't stand cars that look like some kid got into his Moms purse, took her credit card and bought every piece of Chinese chrome they could find in a jegs catalog.
Rant over.......for now.
