Why are Americans so GUN infatuated! Here in Canada we don't go nuts for guns, some have hunting riffles or shot guns [ legally] registered, & the gang bangers have illegal hand guns!! We have strict laws for owning a hand gun & you have to jump thru hoops to get one, but you can only use it at gun range ,if you can find one still in existence, & must be "broken down & transported in trunk or lock box. So there is no real "NEED" to own one??? Protection? NO, you can't shoot a robber, as a Drug Store owner found out a few yrs. ago, & still serving time for shooting robber [ Manslaughter] , same goes for your home, & Gov. just banned AK style weapons & is now looking at ban on all hand guns, but still trying to figure out the "gang" problems as they don't give a $hit for laws & don't register their weapons, [ Hmm wonder why] Guess USA laws or lack of, are so out of "whack" to ours???? Makes it difficult to understand.

Lets put it another way. Why are Canadians so infatuated with what Americans do? The strict gun laws in Canada have not stopped criminals from owning and using guns, so why should their law abiding citizen not be able to own one? Canada has not accomplished anything except allowing the criminals to know who more than likely has a weapon, or more importantly doesn't. If your so against gun ownership you should be fighting to take them away from your police and military also. Additionally, categorizing "Americans" as a whole as gun infatuated is incorrect and insulting.

Look, as efed up as the government is here I choose to have a few. We are a free nation as long as Trump is in charge.
We think Trump is the most "disliked" Politician here in Canada & we can't wait till he's "Turfed out" Is it just because you can that guns are so much in abundance

I don't think that was insulting, USA is our neighbor & just stating what the news reports on the number of guns there, the American " infatuation" [news word not mine] with owning guns compared to here. Just asking why, don't see how that's insulting. What difference does it make if criminals know who has or doesn't have a weapon, you can't use it???

I don't believe you were trying to understand the difference at all. I think you wanted to perpetuate the liberal ideology through a thinly disguised question to smugly imply superiority. Seems to me you got the exact reply you came for. I just wished I would not have fallen for it.

By the way, we have CNN too. We just can tell the difference between what's on the "news" and what is real.

There are some that may be infatuated, as you put it. Most are not. I'm not one that is infatuated with guns, in fact I don't think I'm infatuated with anything. The majority of Americans probably don't really care but it's really how the media wants to portray things, anything for a buck comes to mind. With that said I am for the right to own any reasonable self protection. Maybe you're not. Hopefully you'll never need to defend your life or the life of a loved one. With that said, you Canadians can do as you please in your country and we'll do the same, maybe. I'm all for you staying north of the border and I'll stay south of it. When your overabundance of muslim immigrants decide to fxck you up don't call us for help. And quit buying car stuff from here and quit your whining about what it cost you. By the way is your pres or what ever you call him a queer?

Everyone in the world wants to come to this country, I wonder why. Could it is because this is the land of the FREE! Owning guns is part of our heritage and is protected by our second amendment (Thats second in the original 10 to our BILL of RIGHTS), most people don't even understand why our founding fathers put it in there and they thought enough about it to make it #2!!! It was not put in there so we could go hunting, it is solely put in there to ba a balance of power between its people and the government (elected people in government work for us). It serves as a deterint to keep the government from becoming tyrannical and turning against its people as we could take arms against them as we did when we kicked the redcoats out of here. You have to understand what our founding fathers were thinking when they drafted our constitution and a short time later that BEAUTIFUL document known as the Bill of Rights (limiting power over the people) that makes this country different than any other country in the world. If and when they take our guns away it will be the end of this great nation, you guys to the north are great neighbors but please keep your thoughts on our guns rights north of the border.

You are correct about "you can't shoot a robber" Can't do that here either However you can shoot to defend your life or the life of others. Maybe you don't understand the law. A person can enter your store and start running out with stolen items, you can not legally shoot that person. You can only defend your self so the robber would have to be coming at you with intent to harm then you can blow his azz away

Why do you have gun ranges if you cannot have/own a gun? Why would anyone practice shooting if they not allowed to have a gun. AK style weapons is a worthless description. They are not automatic weapons and are no more dangerous than a semi-automatic Remington hunting rifle. Let us know how the plan to remove guns from gangs is going. Or any other person illegally owning unregistered/illegal guns. Total gun confiscation will be an unmitigated disaster, with gangs still having guns and the honest people suffering for it with no way to defend themselves. You may want to check out the situation in Australia, concerning gun control and crime rates.

In Florida, we have the "Stand Your Ground" law. We can use deadly force to protect our lives and the lives of our families, in or out of our houses, if active deadly threats are being made. This law has been challenged many times but remains valid. Every citizen of every country has the very basic right to defend themselves against death situations and violent attacks. If you have never been in a life and death situation, you cannot appreciate the terror that one goes through during these violent confrontations. It will change your mind about owning firearms for self-preservation.

I have a concealed carry permit. I can tell you that if I had not been armed during a death threat/violence against me, I would not be responding to your post. I refuse to be a sheep who would rather die than defend myself and my family.

I for one would move from NZ to the USA in a heart beat. I have a few rifles and used to have hand guns for competition (only way allowed over here same as Canada) have more rifles than most people would think that i should but it is my choice
Used to have an AR15, and really liked that rifle, had to get paid out and hand it back or become a criminal and spend 7 years inside if i got caught with it.
Many of my family hunt and had semi auto rifles to do it with, people who dont know any better say if you need a semi auto you are not a good enough shot. Try telling any one who trys to irradicate goats or rabbits in this country that they didnt need a semi auto. The govt now has pledged $45M to help with pest irradication, they have got out of control over the 12 months that people have not been shooting efficiently
We had a green card as some of you know but got offered a foster daughter just as we were doing our medical checks. the chance to be a parent took over.
Now we both have ageing parents so i guess we have missed our chance,
One thing i will do and have done is tell our daughter that if she gets the chance to experience your country or even live there to go for it

Canada, NZ and Australia are still part of the English Commonwealth, and yes we have put up with this socialist left bullshit for too long, both sides of govt tout the same crap, 4 years ago a man with some balls was made President of the USA and frankly has upset this Regal Hierarchy political system sweeping the world for the past 45 years all at the expense of the working man who just wants to do his thing and get ahead. All these what some people call "progressives" is an oxymoron, they are in fact tyrants, why, because if you do not agree with their bullshit you are an outcast.
This whole Whuhan Virus, WHO Virus or what ever it will be known as is no mistake. Finally around the world people were opening their eyes and the "Progressive Tyrants of Globalism" were getting a bit worried.
Canada, NZ and Australia were great places up and until the 70's, now well not anymore, wait till the debt collection starts in 2022.

And as Steve said, I really like where I am but would move to the States in a heart beat, but not to any left leaning state.

Rant over.

I think the statement above tells me all I need to know. I don't even care for Trump, however, you gave yourself away with that one. I can only guess, but something tells me that you have a Trudeau picture on your wall at home. And Bruce Cockburn only had one good song... ...... ... so take that:D
