    3732692 Crank grind

I recently saw a video about doing crank grinds. Granted the subject in that video was a '70's crank. The main take-away from that video was to be careful about removing the top surface material on cranks since removing that extra hardness benefits weakens the crank. Anyway, this got me...

Late Great Chevys monthly publications No More?

Recognizing the change during the "Classic Chevy" era having no means to download issues, I knew this would someday be the end game. But I didn't suspect it so soon. No matter. Got to give credence to Danny Howell and team for doing what they did when they did. All said, I suppose I feel...

Late Great Chevys monthly publications No More?

A sign of the times I suppose. Was a lifetime member #2422 of Late Great Chevy since the the 80's. Part of that membership included a monthly publication. Later, LGC was absorbed by Classic Chevy diluting the monthly publication to an online format. Eklers now (or whenever) absorbed Classic...

    58 Rebuild begins

Points taken... Got a lead on another shop from a local 348/409 member. Negotiated to have the block be brought to them next week. Gotta mag it again as if anyone has the $$ for duplicate work :bang, but at least back on track with someone reputable. Will be a great campfire story someday.

    58 Rebuild begins

Ahhhh! Good news, not so good news. First, a overdue update. The good: Elected to go with a pair of Bob Walla heads over the Edlebrock 60815's (Same valve size, water jacket advantages, but original GM push rod geometry) Plus, I believe BWR offers a more personal touch to our projects. Bob also...

    Paint Aluminum Heads

Did some research into this and my approach will be to etch my heads and manifold with some zinc chromate primer. If I choose to fill logo's, I'll use JB Weld using a sponge technique to duplicate a cast surface.

@catdoctor - That's the very cam I got from Charlie too. So very glad to hear it's servicing you well.

    Bumper filler panel replacement

The valance panel bolts to the bumper. The bumper mounts to the car. This link should give you a better idea how they all go together. https://www.autocityclassic.com/bumpers/1958-chevy-passenger-cars-rear-bumper-kit-58rbump/ If your trying to free up what you have. I say remove the the bumper...

    Bumper filler panel replacement

58 valance panels use a special tool for the retaining screws. Kind of looks like a figure "8". NAPA had them way back when I got mine.

    58 Rebuild begins

Don - Thx so much! To your question. No plans to Stroke it. My goals are to build a "snappy" EFI driven 348 with increased air and coolant flow. Drivetrain: 348 EFI => TH350 => 336 Posi modified with a 3.08 ring and pinion. Now more than ever, a matched cam selection would be the most essential...

    58 Rebuild begins

For 2023, most of my efforts can be attributed to securing EFI support and Digital Dash components. Dakota RTX Dash, RLC Digital Clock, Holley EFI Interface, 348 Alternator, Front Power Brakes & Booster. Never planned on the Alternator requirement, but Classic Generator hooked me up nicely in...
