a 983 GMC used to be a tandem axel

we are just weird up here , could be the nine months of cold ,makes people more fussy about keeping track of stuff, just went to double check and there is a partial vin on the block plus my air breaks and clutch seized up over winter

the 09 is original to the truck its listed on the tag on the kick along with the transmission and axels, I thought the motor must have been redone because when I pulled the pan the crosshatch was visible, the block number matches the serial number on the truck.

definitely not this one, no green on the block heads or intake or oil pan, was that a GMC or Chevy thing, or could it be a Canadian thing. That's why these forums help with info, im to young to remember all the details of this stuff, only fifty.

690 head exhaust port compared to 817 340 horse heads

just a question, for 65s is there a different exhaust manifold between 400hp as compared to the 340hp, I have two sets of gaskets and their is a big difference in the port size, you can really see it on the heads, not a big issue because of headers just wondering

    817 small port heads

im getting around 23 to 25 mpg just under 200 for temp , ive tried other combos but the motor seems to fall flat, with this set up this old L79 seems happiest, each small block is different though. Some with the same setup like it up to 23 degrees ive tried to build them with the same...

    817 small port heads

we must have different spec fuel north of the border, never have had detonation problems with any motors, good to know, ive run variable duration lifters on all high compression small blocks without any issue, cranking compression is around that 185 to 205 mark

its also running variable duration lifters if that helps, im also 2000 feet above sea level or so, or small block regularly run 11.5 on our low grade gas, I know the 09 is touchy but I was hoping this would work

    817 small port heads

the cam is good to 6500 springs are fairly heavy and looks like a copy of a big block cam, the heads ported and have bigger valves, I know that small blocks pull out with rollers and high rpm, and I have a lead foot my 690 heads with a solid cam runs single springs and its not pinned, it has...
