    1962 Impala Project

The old 283 is out and the new 409 is in. Almost ready to start it up. Just waiting on the side generator bracket to come in the mail so I can get that hooked up and put the core support and radiator on. Hopefully it will be running next weekend. Does anyone know the max height that the air...

    shipping cost

My Uncle just shipped my 409 to me a couple weeks ago with R&L Carriers. It was about a 950 mile trip. Cost was $450, but I had to pay extra for lift gate service and residential delivery so it would have been about $250 without it (this was using a business account). Total weight with engine...

    1962 Impala Project

Here are the dyno sheets.....as Brian said they started at 3500 RPM....so engine may have been making a bit more torque at a lower RPM? I was expecting in the 400's based on the 340 horse being rated at 420 at 3200 RPM. Nick

    1962 Impala Project

The engine was broke in on the dyno this morning. On the best run it had 378 horsepower at 5600 RPM and 392 foot pounds of torque at 3600 RPM. I'm pretty happy with the numbers for the parts selection. Remember that this was using the stock 2.5" cast manifolds, if headers were used I'm sure it...

    1962 Impala Project

The engine has been dropped off at the machine shop for the dyno session. They are supposed to run it either Friday or Saturday. Either Brain or myself will post the numbers this weekend. -Nick

    1962 Impala Project

Just a quick update on this: we decided that before the engine is shipped to me, Brian is going to break it in and tune in on the dyno. Hopefully they will do a couple pulls on it to see what kind of power this combination of parts makes (we are getting a decent deal to run it so we're hoping...

    1962 Impala Project

Thanks....I'm lucky enough to have an Uncle who has been able to help me out with the with everything from the car to the engine. When I was in college I used to work with him on the weekends on his cars, so he got me started in the hobby. He's been able to help keep me into it.....just wish...

    1962 Impala Project

I checked the website and found the information on the Thunder series for the dual quad set up, but nothing on the Performer seriers I am planning on using. I'm going to try to give Edelbrock a call and see what they say about the Performer series for the dual quad set up. The website says they...

Ronnie, Do you know what size jets are in the ones jetted for the 2 X 4 applications? The 1403 and 1404 has .86 primary and .95 secondary. Show cars has two 500 CFM Edelbrock carbs for $579.90 (part 3913E) but doesn't specify jet size. Thanks, Nick

    1962 Impala Project

After debating for a while on whether to build another car and keep the 283 in the Impala for now or upgrading to a 409,the 409 won with a bit of a nudge from my Uncle Brian. The motor swap probably works out much better since I have a 3 year old, and don't have enough time to devote to...

    1962 Impala Project

Here are a few pictures from the beginning of September of the headlight bezels and grill that I had Dave Kosmann redo. After one season of driving it with the 283 in it, it's time to remove it and make the 409 swap. It ran good, however, it just isn't a 409. My uncle (BSL409) will be building...

    1962 Impala Project

Here are some updated photo's of the project which are long overdue. Car is almost all complete minus the front grill and headlight bezels. I'm planning to send those out to Dave Kosman to have redone in a couple of weeks. I'm holding off on getting the A/C working for now until I decide if I'm...

    Battery Group Size

I did a search and couldn't find the answer on the forum for this easy question: what battery group size is the correct one for AC Delco or Interstate batteries for '62 full size pass. car? Thanks, Nick
